Had a glitch with the computer last night - froze up, had to reboot couple of times. Now, Firefox seems to have lost its bookmarks. I've tried copying a backup bookmark.html file from the c:documents and settings\username\application data\mozilla\firefox\profiles\randomnumber\bookmarkbackups\ to the directory above and renamed it bookmarks.html. That file looks OK but Firefox doesn't show the bookmarks and it changes it to file to a 1 kb file.

Any ideas? I'm thinking maybe the registry got messed with during the reboots????

TIA

Fred

Well, I just tried the procedure above again and it worked this time! The only thing different was that I added a bookmark to the blank one that Firefox defaulted with and then closed Firefox and replace that one with one of the backup bookmark files.

Oh, well.

On the positive motorcycle side of the house, I finished off installing a vistacruise using a combination of Warchilds method Click and secured it with some wire ties because I'm not ready for drilling holes!

Cheers all

Glad you got things in working order. Sometimes these files on the drive get crosslinked or corrupted for any number of reasons... good thing it was not something more critical.

For future reference, you might also consider the Foxmark extension. It allows you to upload your bookmarks to a server and synchronize them with another computer -- in case you found a great porn news site at work and want to be able to find it again at home... It also creates a backup for issues like yours.

There are disadvantages, too, like privacy concerns. But then you gotta ask yourself, "What publicly available websites am I bookmarking that I wouldn't want others to know about?"
