Anybody have this problem? Do yourselves a favor and check those things. $100 to replace, and i'm sure i could've called gary but i hoped my local guys could get it to me a little quicker. They said it should be in by friday. I even checked those locks that day!!! :aggressive: :angry2:

Hey EM,

I lost one because the dealer didn't locktite them in like they should have. They replaced it under warranty but the new one has a different key. There should have been an extra lock under your seat when you bought the bike. It is for use with a top box but I just used mine to replace the one I lost so I have one key. Make sure you use blue locktite when you put them in. I have had no problems in the 18,000 km since then.

Gypsy is right. You should have a spare lock for a top box, and go ahead and swap it in there now. Then check the OTHER side for the blue locktite. If it's not there, get the security torx and blue that screw!

Damn, I'm going to check my locks when I get home tonight. A tube of blue Locktight came with the Throttlemeister I installed Sunday and I finally installed my top case last night.

Sorry about your lock man, and thanks for the tip.

Not all dealer's have been using locktite as required by assembly instructions. The problem has existed for some time. Check and ensure locktite has been used on the assembly of your luggage where required. :D

Already have the top box lock on the top box. I will be swapping those tonight, the gf can hang on to me for a day or so.Also, talked to my yamaha guys and thay said tey would refund me when the part comes in! Thanx for all th e help

Since this is required my instructions shouldn't they be liable?

Never mind I see where they reimbursed him. :D

Size Torx please? Thanks much!

It is a "Tamper Resistant Torx Bit" size T-10. I got a set of these torx bits from Sears in the tool department naturally. They are made by Lisle, part #26530. They come on a red background blister pack with a size T-10 to T-55. You may as well go ahead and get the pack. I also got their regular Torx Bit Set, part #27200. I think that most auto parts stores should probably carry them as I have seen them in Advanced Auto or O'Reilly, can't remember which.

Thanks again, a set including a T-10 it is.

Evidently there are a few dealers that aren't using the locktite. I noticed that mine were comming loose a week ago and got the torx bit and tightened them down. Didn't know about the locktite though. Gonna have to go get some!!

Heck, my left side lock fell out the second day. NO locktite, not even properly tightened. Got the torx bits, tightened both sides and carry the bits in the tank bag. Guess I should get some of the locktite and do it right.

Not the only thing my dealer dropped the ball on. More on that in a few days, after another issue is resloved.
