Lots of questions

Hello all, I just sold my 2006 Honda VTX 1300R and I want to get a FJR 1300. I have alot of questions. Is there enough difference between the 2005 and the 2006 ABS models, what should I look for to make sure that the bike is in good working order? Any other information would be great too. I hope to find/buy one yet this season or for sure early next season.

I like the 2006 on up mostly for the higher capacity stator, ambient temp gage, stiffer stock suspension, and lack of valve tick issues.

Many here like the pre 2006 versions due to being very slightly faster. Plus they are jealous of us Gen II owners.

Your best bet is to buy a Harley Davidson... really.

Each gen has it's 'issues'.

As a gen 2 owner, I'm partial to the easily fixed problems associated with that platform

- burned grounding 'spiders'

as compared to gen1 'tickers'

- worn exhaust guides

I see you live in Minnesota. One of the big issues with the 05 was that there was more heat coming off the engine hitting the rider's legs. This is a good thing at any temp below 65, doesn't matter between 65 and 75, and becomes an issue for guys like me who live in warm climates where the temps are often over 80. So with Minn. temps, most of the time this might be a plus.

Another is that the 06 ABS are linked. Can make bleeding the brakes a little more of a challenge. Don't know if this matters to you. The 06's are a bit heavier as well, for what it's worth. Another item, sliders are cheaper on the 06, as they don't require brackets. Unless you choose to cut a hole in your fairing of the 05, then sliders would be about the same price. I have an 05 and bought the ones with brackets for 80 bucks from "T Rex." Also: the 05's that were tickers were few in number. Most never have an issue with it, from what I've read on the forum.

06 and newer is the only way to go. The FJR is a great bike however it is becoming outdated. Yamaha needs to address this issue very soon.
