I had a Cisco exam today, and it was gorgeous out, considered riding the 70-minute trip but took the company truck. Now I'm glad I did, I hadn't thought about the love bugs being out. This video was about 30 minutes after I left PC headed north to Dothan, hit the bugs just north of I-10 on 231, this is maybe 10 minutes later. The little tick sounds you hear if you listen carefully are a pair of bugs leaving this world unawares.

Once in a while when going slowly or after a stop you see the female (larger) gripping the windshield for all she's worth, and the male flapping in the breeze, still attached by the nether parts, and ONLY the nether parts. Owie!!!! She can hold on till about 30 or 35, then they're gone over the roof. All the while he's probably yelling, "Let go, you stupid bitch! LET GO!!!"

For those of you that don't get down here and don't know what these are, here's wiki.

This swarm was thickest in the 5 miles just north of I-10. Almost none north of there, a very few south of that. Here's the truck when I got home:

I would have hated getting that mess on my bike (and gear) and then having to act all gay and everything to clean them off before they made permanent marks (which they do.)

We have those wonderful bugs here also, but sometimes they are known by another name starting with F. As you probably know, if you put a good coat of Rain-X on the front bumper and front of hood as well as the windhsield, they come off a lot easier. I don't advise this for bike windshields, as some plastic are crazed by the Rain-X. Others on the Forum say it's ok. I wouyld check with the windshield manufacturer.

Also, hydrogen peroxide works really good at disolving them when cleaning. Be sure to keep your windshield up high to prevent the Harley smile. :clapping:

Doesn't look that bad. You should see a windshield after riding the roads around the rice fields in No. Ca. No way you can even see through a windshield, especially in the evening.

I remember a trip my dad an I took to Toledo Bend reservoir back in the late 70's (it's a body of water on the Texas/Louisiana border... great for fishing). He literally had to pull over every 10-15 miles because we could no longer see through the front windshield. Love bugs ... what a completely useless part of the universe.
