I've spent the winter thinking I should buy an R1 as a stablemate for my FJR, but could never have the courage to face the wife afterwards :(

The bumblebee paint job is just tooo enticing.

Anyway, I've had the FJR out for a few rides, and realized what an incredible bike I have! It rocks! Sooo much power, and comfort too...

I've got a bunch of mods in boxes to make the bike more R1 like, within reason. I've got Wilber's and Spiegler's yet to go on, waiting for a day off in May. I've got Holeshot Headers on order, and Pirelli's too.

If I had unlimited cash, garage space, and an ultra moto tolerant SO, I'd have a stable of bikes, but I'd likely ride the FJR most of the time anyway.

I'm with you dgfella... the last couple days riding have sold me (again) on the FJR as the bike for me...

I hear the siren song of the GSX-Rs and R#s and such, but then I take the FJR for a spin, plop down in my Rick Mayer saddle, let my Wilbers smooth out the ride, plug into my XM, and life is beddy beddy goood. :D

I'd also have a stable of bikes if I won the lottery, but for now, I'll quite happily take what I've got and say a great big Thank You to the universe for making it possible.

Here's one solution - give the FJR to your wife and buy something else for yourself. Not only would you get to borrow the bike back now and again but you would score SO many husband points. <g>

Warning! If she's like some of the lady riders we have on this site, he may never get it back. Not bad, but realistic......

But wouldn't that solve all his problems? He said he wants another bike, so he'd get that. PLUS the wife with the FJR would be so happy that she would 'treat him nice' and he'd be happy too.

Of course, the wife wouldn't be spending too much time at home once she got the FJR but you can't have it all ways.

You know, my bike has some wear marks on the sides of the tanks because I never bothered to get protectors on it. Too busy riding. The cowling under the radiator has a sandblasted stripe because I never bothered putting a fender etxenda on. Too busy writing about riding. So, when you run across my FJR that isn't as shiny as it used to be, all I can do is hope people liked my ride reports! I love the FJR more than ever; blemishes and all. It's clearly the best bike I've ever had and the best bike for me!

Owning in the neighborhood of 35 bikes, I never had one for more than 10K & ~1.5 years. Got bored, too many shortcoming, blah, blah. Enter the FJR. 2.5 years & 25K and I'm still impressed every time I ride it. All things considered, it's an amazing bike. Not perfect, but not far off, especially with key mods. In the last 2.5 years I've taken a bunch of test rides, ahem, "just to stay current." Several very nice bikes out there, but nothing comes close to the FJR.

I just sold my '05 GSXR1000 to get a '06 FJR1300 (dealer says that he called Yamaha and the bike is supposed to be in the last week in April). The problem with any liter bike is that they're just boring on the street.

Once you get to a certain point, the fastest bike on the road is not determined by mods, accessories, horsepower or handling or even rider skill, but simply on which rider is willing to take the most risks. Because the usuable performance of the GSXR on the street is sooo low, a contest between the GSXR and the FJR in anything but a straight line will simply come down to whichever rider is willing to be the most stupid on the road.

The GSXR was really boring on the street. You can't even begin to touch the performance potential of a liter bike on the road. For example, the only excitement of an on-ramp at 120mph was braking to merge into traffic. The liter bikes are fun to look at, but really need a track to be entertaining.

'05 GSXR - sold with 903 miles on the odometer. You guys who want a liter bike aren't missing anything (unless you want it for garage sculpture).

Of all my bikes so far (77 counting the new '06 FJR) my clunky, "obsolete" '04 1200R Sportster has provided more smiles per mile than any other one. OTOH if my newly arrived FJR (second one...) continues to build on the impressions created during my 82 mile "test" ride yesterday...hhmmm, she will be around for a long time. My previous high was my '94 BMW R1100RS-6+ years and 22K miles. Of course I still do have my '74 RD250 which was my graduation present from me to me when I earned my college degree. Only @ 8K miles on her tho; not the most comfortable bike I've ever had....LOL! DFO ;)

Of course I'm biased, but the FJR is the best bike I've had the opportunity to ride. Last night, just for fun I took out DH's Yamaha 1700 Road Star Warrior. It's a big heavy brute but I can get my feet pretty much on the floor, without the punk rocker boots.

Got it into 1st OK but then realized I could not reach to pull the shifter up into 2nd. Eventually, I figured sitting sideways on the seat and not using any rear brake, would do it.

It was nice to have the chance to ride a big heavy cruiser but the FJR remains MY bike.
