I love my new bike the only complaint is that I wish it wan't so high for me. Does anyone know how I could lower it possibly with seat or lowering kit? Also where can I get sliders for my bike?
I read alot about lowering the bike. The answers are lower the seat some and lowering the bike some with the Kouba links.
Take the seat off and straddle the bike. Is it low enough now?
If you have no weight attached to your *** or stomach (like me), did you loosen up the front and rear suspension? Does a pocket full of change help? Do all this with the seat off.
Still not low enough?
Get two things that are about 7/8" thick and set them on each side of the bike and stand on them while straddling the bike. Is this low enough?
Spencer from GreatDayToRide.com can "lower" your seat by approx 1" and also make it more comfortable for under $100. I did this when I bought the bike. I can't tell a difference because I didn't ride it much before I had him modify the seat. I wanted to be lower. While I was seatless, I went and straddled the bike and realized that no seat at all didn't make me as low as I wanted.
Then I loosened the suspension. I also ordered the Kouba links.
Some said that I would get used to the height (true) and some said that the bike loosens up over time and tends to lower (True also).
I can tell that the Spencer seat mod makes a difference when I sit on a new FJR in a showroom. I am lower to the ground and my seat is more comfortable.
I didn't install the Kouba links. The turning point for me was when people said they were scraping speed bumps. Plus you also have to lower the front of the bike also and while it looks easy and supposedly there is enough room to drop the front, I am doing Ok without the new links. I am not flat footed, but I am close and getting closer.
Another option is thicker soles on your boots.
I got the Kouba links for the 07 AE sitting on the dining room table unopened. If you think this is the route you want to go, PM me and I will let you have them for $60 and I will pay the shippng.
Note that many on this forum recommended the Kouba links if the bike was just too damned tall. I am getting used to it. I also read about an adjustable link on this forum that sold for something like $300 that allow you to adjust the dropping of the rear of the bike.
Best of luck deciding. And of course, Kouba links are not permanent. You just change the links back the the originals.
