20 GB HD, 10 for GPS and 10GB for MP3's HMMMMMMM

This impressive unit has one of the largest screens we've seen among aftermarket GPS products; it measures 5 inches diagonally, with a 320-by-320, 256-color display, and is bright and readable even in direct sunlight. The device itself is 6.1 by 4.5 by 2.2 inches and weighs in at slightly over 2 pounds, excluding the mounting brackets. It's completely sealed and watertight

pretty cool unit, some of the reviews say they had crashing and unit is slow to reroute...

I like the MP3 player setup.... thats a nice added feature, but not USB 2.0...

Here are some links that may help you guys understand some issues, not my words just the general iWay 500 users.

Sometimes it would just take us up the ramp, make us turn right or left and drive us a mile up the road and tell us to make a U-turn and get back on the freeway we had just exited. This is not good. Unfortunately, the unit's propensity to generate strange and out of the way routes cause us to rate this unit NOT ACCEPTABLE

Again, I recommend for you to do some home work before buying a system.

I will love to sell you a iWay 500 if you wish! ;)

A friend of mine ordered one of these last night. He seems to think there has been a software upgrade recently that addresses these bugs/issues.

??????

Guess he will find out.

I have one on my bike....and with all do respect to 04fjr4me, this gps rocks! i have NEVER got the error 04 listed. i used the gps to get me from the bay area to grants pass, to yakima, to tacoma, to cour d'lane (sp?), to missoula, to orofino, id, to sparks, and home. it worked flawlessly. i had an old issue with the screen not refreshing and Lowrance sent me a new unit. there is a new software update with GREATLY improved poi's. the touch screen has come in very handy on rides where i want to see where a road connects or terminates. the mp3 player is awesome with a built-in amp and equalizer. click on the "MY WEB PAGE" link and see it installed on my bike. i used a 3/8 RAM BALL, drilled and tapped the right side morror mount.

it is portable to take in your car, which i plan on doing when i fly to boston in october.

feel free to e-mail me for more info.

for the price i have seen this on the internet, you cannot go wrong.

Motorgod,

With your iWay setup do you have a quick and easy way to remove it for stops? As large as it is you obviously can't leave it on the bike while you're taking a leak in Taco Bell. Unless you have a method of securing it to the bike?

If I am going to be away from the bike for a long time, I just unscrew it from the RAM mount and tuck in the saddle bag. At night I have a bike cover and I leave it on. For a quick bite I just make sure I can see my bike from inside or remove it. If I am doing an event where I want to keep track of my total time, just leave it on the bike. I have had it for about 7 months with no problems. Plus my insurance automatically covers any additions up to $1400.00

So far so good.....hope I didn't jinx myself!

Is this a battery powered unit so it can be used as a handheld also??

No, is not battery power like a handheld, you mount this unit in your car or on your bike and power it up with 12 volts DC power.

How is the MP3 Loading... is it slow - USB 1.0 or fast - USB 2.0

all in all... If they fixed all the problems, then this would be a good unit...

I really like the integrated MP3 player

that is the nice thing about these units... they are all basically software driven, and they can Rewrite software to fix minor glitches. I think it all depends how loyal the company is to their customer...

If the hardware is the lacking aspect of some problems, then your kinda stuck with what you got...

Looking forward to hearing more from you about your cool new toy...

It took me about 40 mins to transfer 1.3gigs of music. Fast enough for me.

I'd definitely be interested in a group buy. Trying to decide on the Iway, Tomtom Rider or the new Garmin coming out soon. What do you think?

Im probably not going to buy anything untill next spring, as I won't really be riding my bike alot in the snow... :( got other toys for that purpose...

Yamaha, Yamaha, yamaha.... hehhehe one for every purpose... :)

Im waiting also to see what the new Garmin unit brings to fruition.. It looks like everyone is starting to move to the flash drive setup and integration of other stuff... I hope the garmin has an MP3 Player...

I'd be interested in a group buy, but not until I am convinced that the iWay's previous shortcomings have been fully addressed. Some have mentioned "locking up", others have talked about poor mapping and poor selection of points of interest. I love the idea of having MP3s included.

But it is huge. Anyone want to drop by my neighborhood and show me what your iWay looks like on the bike? Pictures are great, but I'd like to actually see one mounted on the bike.

I believe that they have fixed the problems with that stuff, but I was talking to another guy, and with the way he had it mounted, it might have caught too much vibration on the bike, and the Hard Drive took a dump on him twice, so he ended up having to take it back and get 2 new units... so the hard drive thing is an issue because of the moving parts... And that was a big cushy BMW... (soft ride) where the FJR is a little rougher in my opinion..

needs to have flash memory on the motorcycle..

JMO...

Shall we start a group buy for the Lowrance iWay 500c with the latest software?
So what are we talking about here for the iway James?

Details man, details! :p
