I have been trying to decide how to mount anything without marking the paint. I found some thin, black material at Home Depot. It is a little tacky on both sides, and cuts to size easily. I wrapped a piece around the grab rail and made a piece to go under the small bag I plan to use. A couple of zip ties around the rail and now the cordura bag won't scrath the paint. I found this very inexpensive material in the roller shades dept. Check it out.

On my FZ I would use blue painters tape around the handles and rear section. Works great on protecting the paint and leaves no marks. And once was very good at saving me from a speeding ticket. Cop said I had a blue bike. Well, title shows clearly that it is black :yahoo:

I've been using the Rubbermaid shelf liner cut to the shape of the luggage rack and secured tu it with Gaffer's tape. The gaffer's tape leaves no residue, sticks well, but is easy remove and tear to size.
