I noticed we've got a "fretbender" on board. Am I the only luthier or does that include the likes of you as well?

I wish I was a luthier. That would probably be much more interesting than I actually do. . .I'm actually a Mech. Engr. by trade. I made up the name during the days that I actually had time to play guitar for 6+ hours everyday. Now I just have to get in what little time I can and pay someone else to set-up my guitars for me. I just got an '04 LP Standard, new out of the box, that needs the frets shaved & dressed the nut re-cut, and the action adjusted to suit. QC at Gibson has gone way down hill lately

Do you do your own work as a luthier?

Only on the amatuer level. I've made a couple basses for myself, and I'm about to finish up a guitar for my younger brother. The guitar is much nicer than any of the work I did for myself.

Right on Slap! I've always wanted to learn how to build a guitar. As it were, not enough time so I pay people to do it for me. Rock on!

I've got a 5 string bass in finish at the moment, and the afore mentioned guitar going into finish shortly. Should have pics soon of the 5 string, in maybe a couple more weeks.

Some in-process pics, and some pics of my first bass are found here

Very cool!

Can you say "Alembic active pick ups"

Sweet!

For the guitar, wire it like the Tribute :guitar:

That neck is nice...Cherry, Purpleheart and Maple eh?

Walnut body?

Is mine next?

Nice stuff slappy, but I thought luthiers made acoustic, not electric git boxes and such, a la, Lynn Dudenbostel, no?
both or either in my book, especially when you are doing neck throughs with 5 chunks of wood in the neck. That certainly qualifies him as a luthier in my book!

The difference in sound between a really well made electric and a "from the shop" electric is simply incredible at times (depending on a few things)

1. Alembic doesn't sell just pickups last I checked. The guitar is getting bartolini's.

2. It's getting wired like a les paul, customer request

3. Mahagony, maple, and purpleheart, walnut back with mahagony body, flamed koa top.

4. It could be! ;)

HOLY ****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They're AWEFULLY proud of those pickups. That $900 could build me 3 basses using the parts I already use.
