I have been talking about doing an Iron Butt ride for a couple of years. It looks like we are finaly going to do it. We are leaving from Pittsfield Me and going to Myrtle Beach SC on June 11th. I want to invite anyone that has the desire to hurt themselves for about 1100 miles.

It would be nice to have someone go that has done one before. I have all of the literature for the Saddle Sore 1000 but have never done one myself.

There will be 4 going for now but I would like to see more.

After the run down we are coming back to Laconia NH for bike week. We want to get back by Wednesday for the hill climb in Gunstock.

Anyone interested just email me.

Jim

If anyone knows where to get in some great scenic riding in on the way back north I would love to hear from you.

As of today there will be 4 bikes going.

FJR 1300

YZF600R

BMW K1200S

Hyabusa

Wish us luck.

Looks like quite a diverse group your riding with. 1100 miles in 24 hours is a tough ride by yourself. Riding with a group just makes it harder to keep the pace up. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

This is the first one that any of us have done. A few of us have ridden together so we are familiar with each others ridding habbits. I hope that the pace isnt to fast for anyone. Of course we wont speed ;) any...........much.........often.....ok maybe a little. :D

I will let everyone know how it goes.

All I can say is I have a different respect for the people (nuts) that do this often.

We left at 0400hrs on Sunday June 11th from Fairfield Maine. We had plenty of Ibuprofen and Aleve.

For those of you who have done one of these you will understand that it is hard to do anyway, but we had 4 bikers and I had a passenger. One of them is a truck driver. He knew some great roads to travel on but he also knew how to talk when we stopped for fuel. He was on a VTX 1800 so we only got about 120 miles between fuel ups. That would have been ok if we could have fueled peed and pressed on. He had to talk to someone at every stop. Then we had to wait for him to get his helmet on. Oh my. I could have killed him at the 500 mile mark, we stopped to get gas and he knew a better gas station to stop at. We went against my better judgement and it took us 25 minutes to fuel up. The next stop I told everyone that we had to pick up the pace. Not on the road but at the stops. It was horrible. It didnt happen. We still only averaged 50 miles per hour. Even though trafic in most areas traveled above 80mph. It took us 20 and a half hours to complete 1016 miles.

I will leave the Iron Butt runs to those of you who have it in you. I have done mine and will never attempt it again. I will be able to see 500 to 700 mile days but not the thousand mile day.

I traded my FJR for a 2006 Royal Star Tour Deluxe and broke it in during the trip. The other bikes that went were 2003 Honda VTX 1800 a 2004 Hyabusa and a YZF600R. They had saddle sores I can tell you that.

Over all I am very glad that I did it and recomend it to evryone. Just do it alone or mayby one other bike that has the same goal in mind. Get r done.

I will wish you all the best. I will be back on another FJR in my not so distant future. This forum is the best one out there.

Congrats on the ride. I've done trips with someone on a Sportster, so, I understand your frustration. Sucks pulling into a gas stop when your fuel guage is showing over 1/2 tank remaining. Enjoy the Star.
