Who here has had an angiogram?? I'm doing one next week and am wondering what to expect.

Will they be going in through the groin or the arm?
It's not terrible. You will be awake for the whole procedure, at least that's how they handled mine. They went in through the groin. The procedure took about 45 minutes, but with the drugs they put into my arm, it felt like 10 minutes. It was pretty much painless, excluding the prick at the beginning, and the closure at the end. I had a stent implanted, and I could feel it, but it didn't "hurt". I asked if I was supposed to be able to feel it, and the doc said yes.
When they do the closure at the end, (I can't remember what it was made of, but it was some type of material that the body absorbed after the incision healed) it does hurt. But just for a few seconds. And of course, you will be sore for a good number of days after, but not terrible.
I was training for a 45 mile bike ride to benefit cancer research when I began having issues (at age 32). I had an angiogram on a Tuesday, a second one on Thursday with angioplasty, was released on Saturday, and was back to work on Monday. Two months later I did the 45 mile ride.

Yeah, it's a concrete corn cob. So?
Considering all the heart issues Bust has had, I'd be surprised if he hasn't had an angiogram.

I've never had one, but they go one of three ways: they find relatively nothing, they find something and Stent it, they find something they can't stent, and you're headed for bypass. A large majority are in the first category. The third is the significant miniority. If they're going to stent, it has to be more than 75%.
If they stent, take your plavix. Take it every day as directed. Don't skip a single day. It will keep you from another angiogram/plasty.

Yeah, but Bust insists on charging for the consultation, and I expect that Ray has already encountered trouble submitting Dr. Sheep's bills to the VA.

My son had many, always through the groin. Like LittleJon said, a little painful at the start and end. And it's amazing to watch while they wonder around in there,

It's more like heat in your chest not painful, just weird.
Afterwards it's all about how they clamp off the artery.. If they use the old sandbag on the applesack area that tends to get painful.
Last time they used some kinda clamp. Not sure if I'd go that route again as I about lost my leg because the femoral artery collapsed.
But that may not have been the cause. Surgeon wouldn't comment.
It is pretty cool to lay there and watch the whole process on the monitor.

Been there. At age 45. Through the groin. Actually no pain was felt. Afterwards they used heavy bags to seal off the entry point. Had to lay still for about 4 hrs. HUGE bruising in the area. Later I had Angioplasty , a stent was inserted into my left anterior artery. They went through my arm for this one. Was awake and alert for this. Chatting with the doctor as he went about his job. felt a little burning sensation when they opened the artery. Nothing extreme. Felt better immediately. The arm entry had a shorter recovery time . Just had a snug wrap put on my entry wound. No fears Ray.... they can fix anything. Good luck.

Had one; no pain just the rush Bust described.
You might ask why they are not doing a cardiac CT scan. Much more effective in detecting blockages. Produces a 3D video of your heart and blood vessels.

Had the test yesterday and the plumbing is OK so I guess the problem is in the pumping device. Will have a conversation with the doc to see what's next.

My helmet is on too tight....
Glad the pipes are good, hopefully the pump is an easy fix if it is found to have an issue. Sometimes it is a relief in finding what it is not, as much as it is finding what it is. Did that even make sense? Either way good vibes to you.
