Any Feejer opinions:

I've heard that the Metzelers are a hard compound tire. Which makes for longer life. But the tires make it a little hard to ride/brake on wet weather roads.

I've run Metzlers since my 07 came stock with them. Never had any problems with wet roads and the sidewalls were stiffer so no "walking" in turns fully loaded 2 up. That said I spooned on a set of PR3s this last time because I picked up a set for $300 last minute before heading to Austin TX for the races and while the profile was a little different from the Metz's I got used to them and really like the performance on very wet roads coming home, and they seem to wear well too. Not sure what I'll do next change out.

The Metzeler Z6 is a multi-compound tire (soft on the sides, hard in the middle). I personally like to run a front Metzeler and rear Michelin PR2. The PR2 rear will far outlast the Metzeler rear, per my experience... Most good tires for the FJR will be a multi-compound type tire.

I have Metzler Z8's on my Beemer. Would NOT recommend them, well at least compared to the Michelin PR line anyway. PR's all the way! Most guys that run the Z8's complain that there is no indicators of when the steel threads pop thru. Also a short life span as well.

I had a metzler as a factory install - lasted about 8k - But went quickly and without warning (lack of wear bars in the middle) from looking ok to gone ( couple of hundred miles) - replaced with a PR2 - already have 9k on it and probably have another 1000 to go

Metzeler makes a BUNCH of different tires. I have used a Z8 on the front (didn't like it). For some years, the FJR came with a Z6 - most people didn't care much for them; especially the rear. A favorite cruiser Metzeler is the ME880. This is a hard compound tire and I wouldn't recommend it for the FJR. (I have a friend who uses the ME880 on his BMW K1200LT)

Ran out the OEM Z6s that came on my '06 FJR and haven't run a set since. There are [much] better tire options available depending on your intended use.

YMMV

The Metzlers that came standard on my '10 are junk, junk, junk (Roadtech Z6 I think but I'm not sure). The front tire had a groove on center that undulated left & right. It looked cool but it produced handlebar wobble up until 35mph. The bike / handlebars were following the tread pattern, a major, major design flaw. The front tire pushed a tad when hard over & they lasted 4-5,000mi (no, tire pressure was NOT the issue, I followed the recommendation exactly & checked PSI before every ride). Oh, and by the way, they would lose 2-3psi in 3-4 days time. Then I bought Michelin PR3's & it transformed the bike. If you don't feel like spending the bucks for Pilot Roads, the Bridgestones on my '14ES are pretty decent, far superior to those awful Metzlers but not as good as PR3's.

Metzlers do not do an FJR justice, avoid buying them, there are too many other better choices. Not that I have a strong opinion on them or anything.
