In 2 weeks I'm going to be taking a 2500k + 5 day trip and I was wondering how much mileage you all think I have left in this B21 rear. It has 6XXX miles on it at picture time. I'll be down in the Utah/Nevada area (so heat will be an issue on wear).

I have a new Azarro rear to put on, but I don't have access to changing my own tires. So, once off the B21 will most likely never be put on again for local commuting.

I guess, I'm more curious to how long a tire last once you get close to the wear bars. My first B21 was replaced at 3500 under warrenty. This is only my 2nd rear tire since I got the fJR.

Thanks,

Dave

Change the tire!

Bridgestone's are known for wearing through the last bit of tread very quickly. 020s that looked like that were only good for 1000 miles, max!

IIRC, I got about 3500 miles out of my one-and-only set of 021's. They were fun until they were replaced but I need more mileage from my tires than they provide.

Well i will tell you i just changed mine with 10,920 miles on it today. It was down to the center wear bars and probably could have gone another 1,000. Its whatever you feel comfortable with. I think most people get anywhere from 6 to 11K out of these depending how you ride and geographic location. The hotter conditions may play a roll in tire wear. JMO.

Bridgestones suck, I'd change it if you've got the opportunity. It may be o.k. but......

I wouldn't take that tire on a 2500 mile trip with wear bars showing. Why risk it?
Wear bars showing? Wouldn't he have more reason for concern if they were gone?
In his picture the tread at top left looks like it's worn down to the bar or past. That would indicate time to get a new tire, especially if your going on a long trip.

If the wear bars are gone it seems to me all your tread would be gone too, so yes that would be a bigger worry.

Michelin Pilot Road 2 is the only tyre that lasts here, due to our warmer climate etc.

Also, on my FJR I don't get that flat section in the middle. When my centre is gone, my sides are also gone.

The sides of your tyre that shows no wear we call here "Chicken strips" :clapping:

I donno if you've already done it, but I would change that tire out. I just took an 021 off my bike with almost exactly 6000 miles on it. It looked about like yours looks, and then 150 miles later, the rubber was cracking and peeling off. I don't think it would have made the 500 mile trip I was about to go on. Just for peace of mind, change it. Who cares if you could have saved yourself $40 worth of tire life? Its not worth the added stress IMHO...

I agree and have decided to get tire changed tomorrow. Fresh rubber for the road trip. :)
