Apparently, this isn't uncommon in Germany.
While I haven't been to the one in Munich, I visited the LOXX model train exhibit (2500 square meters) in Berlin when I was there some years back. Was pretty neat.
A number of the scenes there were also in the Berlin one.
I recall the planes taking off and landing. As well as nude sunbathers with a peeping tom in the bushes.
