While touring some visitors about I had a lapse of attention and dropped the Gray Ghost onto her left side in the parking lot of the Full Throttle Saloon. Sloping downhill lot and I was turning down and across the slope. Canyon Cages prevented serious serious damage but...she fell hard and far enough that she went over center and tagged the mirror and the left bag :(

When the mirror hit there was a loud "pop". Now the left mirror has some play at the body or fairing. Still tight to the cowling and not about to fall off, rideable, but needs to be fixed.

Looking at the tech manual pages 4-8 and 4-9 I can't figure out what the mirror scews actually pass through and are tightened on. Don't want to disassemble to find out making her unrideable.

Anyone been inside there?

What do I need to remove to gain access and a visual on the problem?

Thanks Fella's!

John

I dropped my '14 a couple months ago on the right side and ended up with a slightly loose mirror mount. You need pull apart the left upper black plastic that sits behind the headlight adjustment knob. To do so, remove the set screw on the knob abed remove the knob, remove the 4 screws holding the plastic in place, then carefully pry apart the black plastic from the (om your bike) gray piece along the top edge. This last part takes some strength, tenacity and carefulness. Once you have the top separated you can separate enough of the outside edge so you can see inside.

I found that my mirror only had one of the two screws secured with a nut. I had to find a washer and nut for the other side and tightened both sides.

The mirrors bolt onto a part called a stay. I believe it is number 15 in this diagram. Part number 1MC-28356-01-00. It is not cheap and looks like a lot of work to replace. I bent the stay on my '05 as the result of a minor crash and was able to straighten it with a lot of leverage and swearing.

Yes, the mirrors bolt to the stay, which is basically the structure for everything on the front of the bike. It carries the headlights, front fairing, mirrors, battery, and gauge cluster. If the tab broke that the mirror bolts to, it could be welded back on as an easier and cheaper fix, but you've got to get all the bodywork off. Can't help you there, myself, never having torn up (I mean, disassembled :) ) a 2013.

You might want to consider calling your insurance company. This is going to get expensive me thinks.

I will eventually call the insurance company. But I prefer to know at least as much as the adjuster when he arrives to inspect and estimate the repair. My experience is that adjusters are pretty experienced and competent at estimating car/truck damage, not so much on bikes, especially fully faired bikes like the FJR.

As it is rideable for the rest of the season I don't see any problems.

I will probably remove said dash panel the night before the adjuster comes to inspect the bike so we can both "see" what needs to be replaced and repaired.

Probably will do the work myself this winter. Labor charge should just about cover my deductible.

Thanks to all for your quick responses.
