Hello everyone!  I'm a lifelong Yamaha fan and the FJR does not disappoint.  I have a question about the mirrors on a Gen 2.  Has anyone ever removed the glass from the mirror housing?  I want to powdercoat the mirror housing and bracket.  It looks like they are removable but a slight tug and twist is not working too well.

Mirror housing is plastic - not sure if it can be powdercoated??

I had the glass in a mirror removed when I smacked a crow at 60 mph.  (Crow didn't survive but the impact popped the mirror glass out.)  If I remember correctly, the glass is attached to the substrate with some sort of adhesive plus the thin plastic "frame".  I don't think the mirror with the pivoting base can be removed without taking the glass out first.  I was able to get a piece of convex glass custom cut at an auto glass place - Yamaha doesn't sell replacement glass.

Thanks for the info.  My housing looks cast aluminum as I see the paint scraped off.

I knew the stem was cast metal but thought the housing was plastic.  Never scraped it deeply enough to tell...
