The FJR1300A I picked up 2 weeks ago was missing some fairing pieces (Panel "B"). The dealer said the bike arrived without them. So, they ordered the parts. How long should I expect it's going to take for the dealer to receive them from Yamaha? Is this at all common?

It's not a real big deal other than the fact that my glove box won't lock and I can't adjust the left headlight.

Had to order a mirror this week. It needs to come from Japan. They told me 2 weeks. Your part may be about the same.

Now for the question . . . what did the dealer do with the panel? I believe the bike is shipped with it installed . . . Where is the adjuster? Hanging in the breeze? What about the lock nut? Is THAT there? The knob? How did the bike make it out of Q-A like that?

I suspect the dealer cracked the panel and didn't want to admit it.

Thank goodness my Yamaha salesman called and told me they dropped my bike before I went to pick it up.

I felt a lot better about that!

heard a story of a 06 frame being welded wrong and rear tire was 1.73 inches off where it was supposed to be...or the front one was....either way, the wobble it created was nasty and Yammy bought it back from the guy, who ordered another one!

Actually, it's panel "D" I'm missing with the adjuster knob for the left headlight and the small cover over the radiator filler cap in front of the glove box (possibly panel "B"). The dealer claims they discovered these pieces missing during assembly. The adjuster cable for the headlight is taped to a group of wires. Another cable is hanging in the breeze. This is probably the mechanism for locking the glove box via the ignition. Of course, the hardware (screws) that hold these fairing pieces on are missing so some of the fairing pieces are flapping. I wouldn't be surprised if they did damage these pieces but I couldn't prove it and what would be the point anyway.

The hardware (screws) have come in but not the fairing parts.

If these bikes weren't so hard to come by, I would have refused delivery. But, in light of the fact that I wasn't even part of the PDP and I got a discount on the bike as well, I decided I better take the bike and run.

repairman,
you must be a tibetan monk! :)
Ahhh ...it is true, my son.

NOT !

I was actually in disbelief when he said he had some good news ...and bad. My salesman said he actually got sick to his stomach when he heard the news. He asked me if I wanted to back out of the sale. I had waited months to even see this machine so my answer was that I would have to see it in person to assess the damage then we'll go from there.

The damage was very minor because it actually fell on the guy moving it. I was told he was okay too, and that he at least tried to control the bike into a slow tip over. This was no little guy though, and this was not an FJR, but my new FZ1 ...a few hundred pounds lighter than the FJR.

There was no reason the bike couldn't be ridden so I picked it up the early the following morning and fell in love. The dealer ordered a few parts that had some minor damage. I may have lost a little confidence in their ability to care for their customers valuables. I did the installation of all the pieces myself.

They really were very apologetic about the whole incident and have helped me a lot with some deep discounts on gear and accessories, so all is well.

Would I buy a new FJR from the same dealer someday? Probably ...the third time's the charm!

Tell us the truth. It was the kickstand wasn't it?

No ...the kick stand was fine. :p It wasn't even involved as all the cosmetic damage to the bike was on the right side.

It was one quick mistake by a young employee that caused the problem and practically everyone at the dealership had to make up for it.

As a technician I recked a new car once during the PDI test drive just prior to the new owners coming to pick it up. The accident wasn't my fault as the driver of the other car was charged for failing to maintain control of his vehicle and crossing the center lines. The sales manager wasn't upset with me but never the less he had to scramble to find another identical model real fast.

Point being, accidents happen, you deal with them the best you can. I did appreciate that my local Yamaha dealer was up front with me about what happened. There were many ways they could have covered this up in which almost all of them would have made me wait even longer to get my bike.

I have yet to drop my bike but I just bought a set of "Uncaged Frame Sliders" because I know it's bound to happen sooner or later.

The Dealer told me the belly fairing had been scrached in transit and they replaced them before delivery. TJ

I think my bike might be missing a fastener down inside by the left fork... at least there's a fastener-size empty hole there.

I wrecked my 06 on Memorial Day. The last of the parts arrived yesterday. Nearly 7 weeks to get all parts.

Hopefully they can assemble parts faster than Yahama was able to furnish them.

The bike is shipped with this panel in a bag -- not installed. C.R. P.S. He didn't get it about the "kick stand"

Getting out my crystal ball here, I'm betting that since you weren't part of the pdp, and the bike was ordered in one of the employees names that the pieces were most likely pirated for another customers bike. They figured you wouldn't be too PO'd since you were getting a bike without the pre-order, and some other customer was in a real hurry for the parts.

Actually, Tom, according to the dealer, my bike was part of the PDP but to another customer. However, when the bike came in, the person who ordered it became "unreachable". So, they let me buy it. They also ordered another one which is due in any day. They said they would give the parts from this one if the parts from Yamaha hadn't arrived yet. Who knows (what the real story is) ?

Hope you were okay!

Your first post and it's about wrecking your bike?

See! If you had been around here a long time waiting it probably wouldn't have happened.

Well, anyway, glad you can tell about it and hopefully you'll have lots of safe riding ahead.

Thanks, Roger. Not sure why it's showing as my first post...must have something to do with the forum hack. The whole Memorial Day story should be floating around here somewhere, unless that got erased too.

I'm ok - just miss my new bike. And you're right - if I knew you guys and had gleaned your knowledge at that point, I may have avoided a low-side that was entirely my fault (think long-time cruiser owner trottling a new FJR in a turn on a warm dewy morning).

Well, my panel, cap, rivet, springs and screws have arrived ! It took about 2 1/2 weeks to get them from Yamaha. Now. I have to wait another week for the first available service appointment to get them installed.

I'm a little nervous about letting these "mechanics" lay hands on my bike again. I checked the saddlebag locks and, of course, they didn't lock-tite them. They also didn't bother to install the clear plastic paint guards underneath the saddlebags either. Most of the screws holding on the fairing panels were not very tight as well. But, I guess you get what you pay for ... no freight and prep .... Or, on the bright side, at least I didn't pay for prep and not get it, right? :(
