Both are OEM recommendations but I really don't like the way this beast handles with them mixed. Feels heavy and off camber..Anyone else out there run this combo before? I hate to dump the tires because both still have good tread left but seriously thinking about ordering another set of something to see if this is indeed my problem. Just hate to spend that much $$ and find out that it was not the issue.

I assume you've checked your pressures? Most people run with something like 40psi front, 43 rear.

Are you sure that front is an 020? If it's an 021, that will behave exactly as you describe, whatever rear tyre you have. If it is the 021, just ditch it, put on a BT023GT (or anything else people might recommend), anything but an 021.

The front is an 020 for sure with a Metz Z6 rear. I'm anal with the pressures. 40psi front and 42 psi rear.

WTF? Just because the thread is about tires it gets shoved into the never-ending pointless discussion forum?

Off brands are fine....just compare circumferences from the manufacturer to manufacturer. Some are taller than others. This will change geometry a bit.

Mixing tire brands is no big deal. The front and rear tires don't resemble each other even if they are the same manufacturer and model.

The only caveat to tire mixing is that you'll want to be sure that the front tire provides at least as much (or more) traction than the rear. You always want the rear to slip first (for obvious reasons).

Many folks used the Pirelli Strada (when it was available) up front with a Dunlop Roadsmart in the rear. I ran several sets of that myself. This because the Roadsmart front was POS tire, and the Pirelli rears didn't give the mileage of the Roadsmart rear. It has been acclaimed as the perfect tire set by some, but alas the Strada is no more.

Your problem is more likely to be with the particular tires that you chose, neither of which is a particularly good choice for the FJR.

And yeah, mixing tires has been discussed before. Many, many times.

This is why. Also, the recurring part, which you didn't mention in your post. And really, pointless too, 'cause all the kewl kids use car tires. :p

Just 'cause I don't use a car tire on my FJR don't mean I ain't KEWL! I do use one on my Gold Wing, so there! Now, I did tear the front end apart this morning and what I found was a bit off center. First the wheel was way out of balance. Second, the brake caliper bolts and the pinch bolts appeared to have been put on by some brainless weight lifter. They were stupid tight. With everything balanced and torqued like it should be it is certainly better but I still have a decel wobble that I need to diagnose and get rid of and that could very well be the tire.
