* Emotional reasons:
1. BECAUSE IT'S FUN! This is by far the most important and least explainable reason.
2. Any stupid sod can drive a car. Most do. No thanks.
3. I'm a plane junkie, but an F-22, Grumman Gulfstream, or even a Cessna 172 is a bit out of my price range.
4. Driving a car is extremely irritating, unless it's a Corvette ZR-1 or Bugatti Veyron, and again, that's a bit out of my price range.
5. It's fun when you lanesplit and the people yell "you're gonna DIE!" at the next stoplight, and you can yell back "sorry mate! I didn't see you!"
* Rational reasons:
1. Maintenance on my car was horribly expensive and I had to depend on mechanics that at best didn't give a shit, and at worst were incompetent. My Camaro tried to kill me when the ABS failed after the dealership monkeys couldn't fix it. I can easily work on my bikes without the tons of expensive special equipment you need to work on a car. Working on the bike is usually enjoyable and a nice break from the computer.
2. I can afford 2 or more bikes, and if one isn't up to par, I still have transportation.
3. You can lanesplit. When the cars are going 35mph on Curry Ford, even the FJR can go up the middle to clear road. It's not illegal if you don't get caught.
4. Two bikes, a lift, a rolling toolbox, two shelving units and a work table fit in my "one car" garage. A car won't fit in that same garage unless it's an ultrasubcompact like a Ford Focus, and the garage has to be empty. A Camaro or a truck won't fit, not even a Honda Element. "One car" MY ASS!
5. Do I have to mention the price of gas?
