I have not seen anyone else thread about this thought I'd go ahead and give everyone a heads up. If you have a GPS unit on you bike, this is really cool. You can download your trip and view it in MotionBase (www.motionbased.com). You can then watch it in the "map player" and see the little "red ball" retrace your whole trip from start to finish. At the same time it give your speed, elevation, distance, duration of travel. The image can be superimposed on any number of background maps from simple road to satelite imagery. A graphical representation of your elevation change is also displayed.
In the "digest" imagery, you can print out the map of where you've been to record the ride.
What's more, this is all free!
You can also subscribe to the site for $95 a year, whereupon they will give you some additional features and also save all your data (free gets you 10 saved rides). I believe with the paid subscription it will allow others to go and look at your rides (ones that you designate "public"). So if you have a trip you want to share with others on this forum, you tell them to go to your account at "www.username.motionbased.com, and they can watch your ride using the Map Player.
Want to prove you went 145mph? Then post it on Motion based and let the world see!
This could have cool implications for IBA rides perhaps - worthy of some thought.
you don't have to have "the latest and greatest" gps either - I just used my 7 year old garmin and it worked.
I'm just learing about MotionBased, its been developing for about 3 years mostly catering to the running/bicycling crowd, but its got great potential for touring motorcycles.
Anyone with more experience please add to this thread and let me learn too!
thanks
