My brother and I are corner working the Grand Am races at Barber Motosports Park this weekend, and while I'm not the biggest Daytona Prototypes fan in the world, their production-based classes (GS and GT) produce some good racing.

Lo and behold, we get here and they've got Moto ST running, too, first thing in the morning on Saturday and Sunday (before the cars trash the track with gravel and tire clag.) I didn't even know what Moto ST was until I went to their web site last night. 3 classes of twins, sorted by horsepower limits, running endurance-length races of at least 2 hours. Bikes include Buell, Aprillia, BMW, SV650s, and of course a bunch of Ducatis. Just a few pics from my station this morning during thei practice and qualifying:

Will keep shooting tomorrow, hopefully post some more from the race.

More pics. I also learned a bit more about the series by, you know, reading their web site. The event we worked was a 2 and 1/2 hour race. Each bike had 2 or 3 riders taking stints. Of course in a race of this length there will be tire changes and refueling. I also saw that although this is a "rookie" league of racing, i.e. a step up the ladder to the big time, there are a lot of big names in there belonging to guys who have been there and done that and need a hobby now.

I also learned what some of these bikes are by finding the entry list for the race which lists team, bike, and bike number. Useful info!

My pics have a very small amount of variety to them. I was shooting from a single location, my corner station, just past the infield hairpin. I can see an awful lot of the track from there, but my lens is only enough to get the bikes as they go by the station, and as they come up the back from the museum turn. Those were into the sun that early in the day, though, so the bikes are in shadow. Anyway, on with the pics:

That looks kind of like the same bike. This ugly wart of excessive, overly sculpted plastic is an 800SS. Please note the ugly stick passing as a swingarm and the plumber's frame. :)

Station 7 does suck for pictures, though. Almost as much as getting stuck at one station for an entire weekend. :)

Hrm, I was going to attach some of my better pics from Barber but I guess this forum doesn't allow it. Walter, hook a brutha up with image hosting. :)

Well, crap, it is! So those two labeled Ducati Supersport 800 aren't Ducati, they's the Bimota. Red tube-built swingarm should have been a clue. . . . . Apparently I got lost in my thumbnails looking for the Ducati.

Bike 24 was the Ducati, not 23, so I jumped down a line somehwere. Maybe. The next-to-last bike in my first post (red tank, yellow-over-red fairing) is the Ducati 800. (BTW, it was - - - - not competitive.)
