It's been a while since I saw such media bias towards motorcycles, but this one really hits the mark. There are some pretty silly assumptions and statements in this propaganda article.

:glare:

One example:

Long story short: Motorcycles, even small ones, are more polluting than Hummers, but it's the best that can be done for now. If you want to make a difference, consider an electric two-wheeler for your next bike or a gas-powered model with fuel injection and a 3-way catalytic converter.

Isn't a "contract" on a journalist legal? I mean, it's just a journalist, right?

Fookin' El Tiempo de Los Angels. And that article was done by their resident rider. Still, the majority of new bikes are FI and catalyst equipped and I'll put my FJR or Strom up against the H2 any day in the 'carbon footprint' games.

Motorcycles are worse polluters than cars. That's true. You don't have to be on a group ride for more than a few miles to figure that one out.

Not in the overall scheme of things. From birth to death, cars are way more caustic to the environment than bikes. Most folks forget that it creates pollution to build things and then dispose of them, not to mention the maintenance factor.

Single-minded articles like this one are complete jokes when analyzing such issues.

The thing that I find is most distrubing about this article is that it is totally consistent with everything else I have read the last ten years about motorcycle pollution. It appears that the EPA has been giving us a "pass" due to the relatively low numbers of motorcycle riders but that certainly could change at any time.

If anyone has different "facts" about motorcycle pollution from a reliable source, please post them.

Current emmissions and the heart of this article target Oxides of Nitrogen. Currently, EPA and CARB regulates those to 1.4 grams/mile for bikes up to 2008 models, IIRC. Cars and light trucks (Hummer H2 is classified as a LT) are regulated to .5 g/mile. So, yes indeed, given that aspect of pollution, current bikes are 3 times the polluters that Hummers are. Still, that is one very small aspect of the overall picture.

Search the EPA and CARB sites. Tons of info - enough to keep ionbeam knee-deep in technoid **** for a lifetime! :p

<_< so due to the right to free speech, we give them a pass and just say there idiots?

how ever do they really take a look at the growing number of trash on the road. each day i can count (not a large number) but a number of vehicles other than bikes that are spewing blue, black (not including diesels) out the back side of there units.

if they could figure out a cat system for a bike im sure they will have us put it on.

personally they see we dont want to deal with there crap, so they have to find a way to get money from the tax payer.

a jar of lube, and poof instant bill.

:angry2: and well pay just like always.

First off, you're going political with your comments. Being a noob, you should know that this is verboten here. Further, most new bikes are cat equipped. Where you been? Bedrock, hangin' with Fred and Barney?

considering , yes... ive owned only a few bikes mostly used worn out , and usually destroyed them in the long run anyway.

but, i wasnt goin political.

it wan an opinion. <_< guess the noob crap didnt stop in the gaming world.

ill take my comment and leave. for the record. wether or not youve been doing somthing for one day or a lifetime each persons opinion is not worth any less than the next.

While your opinion may have some value to this conversation, so does TWN's attempt to politely inform you that this forum doesn't tolerate political crap. But then, you already knew that since you read and agreed to the forum guidelines upon signing up, right?

Oh, and one thing you won't find in the guidelines is a little somethin' called "Dogpile Fridays". Ya see, we pick the most deserving ***-clown on Fridays and pile 'em. You're in the running today.

Dude, he isn't invalidating your opinion, but giving a friendly reminder that political talk is a no-no here. That's all.

This'll last about as long as I do with a tibetan hooker.
They have hookers in Tibet?

Cool...

Dood! Can't be thin skinned around here! A dog pile will ensue for sure! Especially on Friday the 13th!

Did I say, 'keep your opinion to yourself'? No, I suggested that you were going political - which you were - and that political conversations are forbidden here.

Not only do you fail for breaking forum rules, but you fail again for reading comprehension.

And for the record, let me be the first to say goodbye. :bye:
