Just taking a look at my EZ-PASS bill for my EOM trip and here is one good example of why to get the M motorcycle designation on the EZ-PASS

VERRAZANO NARROWS BRIDGE

Cash..........................$10.00

EZ-PASS......................$8.35

EZ-PASS M...................$3.62 :yahoo:

GOETHELS BRIDGE

EZ-PASS.......................$6.00

EZ-PASS M....................$5.00 :yahoo:

Count in the discounts that apply on the Thruway and any applicable AARP discounts and that pays for a couple three gallons of gas.

I am glad you are getting savings...

me personally, I think toll roads are retarded... We pay enough for road taxes ect. I guess that means i will never live in the northeast,Chicago or Oklahoma... ;)

They have become a fact of life in Dallas, Austin and Houston as well.

Arggg. here in the Land of Lincoln they do not care that you are taking a fraction of a space. Full amount porfavor. And if their system fails to pick up your unit and you drive through anyway. they make you pay Cash amount which is generally double.

Kind of tough getting off of an Island without paying some sort of a fee. Might have to get me a landing craft of some sort.

Sorry, GB, but I have to disagree.

[soapbox rant on]

A "toll" is equivalent to a user fee, which is the most fair and equitable way to fund infrastructure, IMO. Paying for highways and bridges out of the "general funds" is inherently regressive. Taxing the entire population to pay for something that is used by only a small percentage is neither fair nor equitable. At least if fuel taxes are used to fund roadways there is a (very) loose correlation with road use. I like the idea that the big overweight semi-trailers that put the most wear and tear on roads are paying the biggest user fees. Yes, those fees get passed along to the consumer of the product being transported, just as they should be.

[soapbox rant off]

and there is no discount for using a motorcycle versus a car - at least not in Houston.

No, they charge by the axle. A passenger bus pays the same fee as a motorcycle.

Same ******** excuse here in Orlando. What pisses me off is that I have to put my pass upside down in the tankbag so the antenna points toward the antennas on the roof of the tollbooths. This means I can't see any of the status LEDs that tell me it's low on battery, or I'm low on funds, or that it didn't communicate successfully, and I sure as hell can't hear the little success "tweet" noise.

On the good side, once you put some duct tape over the battery lid it's waterproof, and it's A LOT smaller than the huge paper-towel-tube sized units they used to use.

Just show you have an I-Pass and you pay the reduced rate. Or so they say <_<

Ok, I'd like you to show me one person in this county that does not make some sort of use of the highways in their state. If you call the police, ambulance or fire department, how do you think they get there? They don't fly. The groceries that are delivered to our local grocery stores are transported on the highway as well. As much as they say they don't, bicyclists greatly depend on roads to get where they are going. Everyone alive today who lives in any type of populated area and uses modern commodities that they did not make or grow in their back "uses" the highways. There is no way of getting around the fact that we all depend on our transportation infastructure.
