I've been a season ticket holder since the Sacramento "River Cats" played their first game here in Y2K. They're the AAA farm team of the Oakland As. Good team, great ballpark. Parking's a hassle, though, like in most stadiums, before and after the games. In a car, anyway, and they charge ten bucks per car. So I either park way off and walk in, or sometimes come about 45 minutes late and miss an inning or so, after they stop collecting parking fees, and stick the FJR in some close-in corner. I usually don't ride in at gametime, because they were charging eight bucks for motorcycles! WTF. Ten for a car, eight for a m/c. It always kind of pissed me off, so a few days ago I sent an email to the president of the club, basically saying I thought it was too much. Today I found the reply in my inbox. He says, in part:

"With regards to your comments about the cost of parking for motorcyclists, your e-mail has prompted us to reevaluate our pricing and we have subsequently decided to lower that price to $5.00 per game. While it's not an objective issue, we felt that 50% of the cost of automobiles was a logical solution; I hope you agree."

Well, boy howdy! While you can probably fit more than twice as many motorcycles in a typical parking space, I thought this "compromise" from them was more than fair, and was very tickled with such a quick and positive resolution. Wouldn't it be great if every time you complained about something, they fixed it for you? :yahoo: Cool stuff. Yep, I sent back a grateful thank you. Next I'm writing to the CHP about those speed limits.

AutoZone Park (home of the Memphis Redbirds) is downtown, so paying for parking is common. Most night games are not too bad since I can find on-street parking after 6PM within a block. On the bike, we have sometimes parked on the sidewalk (which is what motorcyclists do at the YMCA next door to the ballpark). If you ever decide to come for a Sacramento/Memphis series, send me a note and we'll have a great time!

On a vaguely related topic:

Woo hoo! The Nashvville Predators have just won their first play-off series ever, and are headed to the Western Conference Semi-Finals! Looks like we'll face Vancouver...bring on those fish!

As we're getting closer to moving to the Sacramento area, it was good to see this post. I was thinking of getting some tickets for the RiverCats - maybe even season tickets next year, and good to know the ins and outs of parking there! Thanks SacMike.

good deal! Nice that they actually did something based on your email.

We have a toll road system up in Denver, and they charge based on number of axles. Which means the toll for my motorcycle is the exact same cost as a Hummer or 1 ton truck, etc. If it has two axles, one fixed price.

I emailed them saying that I thought it should maybe be reconsidered since a motorcycle weighing, what, a quarter (if not less) of most other two axles vehicles is not causing near as much wear and tear on the road, and therefore should have a reduced price. At least they emailed me back...too bad it was a politically correct way to tell me to bugger off!

I don't frequent those toll roads anymore if I can at all avoid it.

love that stadium. my son was a pitcher on the rivercats for parts of 2004-2007 and the wife and i spent many a summer days and evenings at that stadium. can't beat the view of the bridge and downtown at night. also the ticket price was right for us....nothing.
