A very excellent article! I did a sleep study while I was in the Army. 48 hours of wakefulness under simulated battlefield conditions. Every hour we took a cognitive test. It was amazing to see the scores drop as the amount of hours awake went up.

Seems this article would suggest that even a SS1000 is not a very safe undertaking. What say the LDR's on the board?

I didn't finish it... I got fatigued. :dribble:

Seriously, what I did have time to read was helpful. Microsleeps on the bike... not a good thing.

Interesting article - I wonder how it tracks with the experiences of some of the LD/IBA folks on the forum?

I didn't think the article suggested one way or another about the safety of a Saddle Sore. I think that's best left to the rider to choose. The article, presented by an LDR rider I believe at the Omaha meet in May, was an educational piece. I found it very valuable and helpful to make my LDR runs safer and more enjoyable.

Biggest single nugget I gleaned was that a nap between 5 and 45 minutes is preferable to one between 45 minutes and 2 hours because of sleep inertia. It tracks with my personal experience that a 30 minute combat nap helps pay off some of the defecit.

Also, I find myself tired at 3 a.m. or so because of my natural circadian rythym and sleeping then makes the most sense for me. In the Utah 1088 I just ran I did many of the things suggested in the article and found myself feeling better at the end of the rally than I thought possbile.

Good stuff!!!
