Just finished the three day (15 hour) Motorcycle Safety Foundation Rider Course. Anyone thinking about taking it, I'd highly recommend it. Had a great time while learning and practicing new stuff, and polishing up on technique. Our two instructors are actually city motor police officers. What we did on our little Honda Nighthawk 250cc bikes they would do on their Harleys. Let's just say they were good!

The only trouble we had was transitioning from the 250cc to the FJR and Beemer - which seemed like "bricks" for the first couple of blocks.

Oh yeah, and Geico took 10% off my policy premium for successful completion of the course. :yahoo:

I was watching the video - did you have your own bike when you did it, or did they supply you one? It looks like they supply you with one, but I would have thought they'd use very similar bikes for everyone if that was the case (bulk buy). In Australia we have to use our own bike. Insurance doesn't cover us on private race tracks, where such courses are held. They also won't give you a discount for such things, so there's no incentive to do them other than for personal development reasons either.

They supply you with one, it's usually crap, but gets the point across. Definitely needed it, since my Majesty didn't have a clutch lever. :p Now that I think about it, neither does my FJR... :thumbsupsmileyanim:

The MSF provided bikes for everyone, though all were no more than 250cc. And it was quite a variety. Most were the Honda Nighthawk, but there were some dirt and cruiser type bikes also. I think it's better to use their bikes, and gas, and get the idea and feel for what they're asking you to do. After the Sunday class we climbed on our bikes and ran through the same skills course. Actually a person can go use the course to practice anytime they're not conducting a class. Practice makes perfect. :p

That's awesome. I'm looking forward to doing one already :)

EDIT: Here I was wondering what a Honda Nighthawk is... Honda CB250 in Australia. Great little bikes - they've stopped importing them here :(
