I now have a 2009 FJR sitting in the garage. Moving up from the 05. I did not think there would be much difference between the 2 bikes but when I test drove it I really felt the changes make from Gen 1 to Gen 2. Smoother, stiffer ride, better wind management and it felt more comfortable even without the farkles!

Olivia proved the wind management change when I rode her home. A 60 minute ride in 30 degree temps without heated grips. I was warmer except for the hands than on Raquel. When I got off the interstate and slowed down the hands actually warmed up.

Now I have to get Raquel ready to sell and start the farkling all over, lol. Yamaha did a great job in updating and I can only imagine the difference the Gen 3 has.....

Interesting that you could tell the difference on your first ride. The Gen 3 is sweet, trust me.

Congrats! My previous '09 was a spectacular machine...sometimes I wish I still had it!

He sold his 09 for a sweat young thing and now sometimes longs for days gone by!

I never had any luck with sweat young things cause the expectations fall short of reality. Often it is only cosmetic only, right --G.

Me? Well I still have my 09 with 77k. It is all set up just the way I like it and causes me no trouble. It is worthless now so I will consider an upgrade when it is totally worthless in another 77k miles. Maybe another 09 with low miles. Those ES things worry me.

If your 09 has stock suspension get rid if it - it is junk. Replace it with something firmer. I have a Penske in the rear and GP up front - it really transformed the bike. Some are buying a newer version of the rear stock shock. Later Gen II and Gen III A models have a much stiffer shock spring and it bolts right in. This is less expensive than the Penski/Ohlins options. And you don't have to worry about Penske clevis issues.

And congrats on the upgrade.
