The Italian Scallion
Malaysian auto-maker Proton, who shelled out a hefty €70-million at the end of 2004 for a majority stake in Italy's Agusta-MV has sold its whole share package to an unknown financial consortium from Genoa for a symbolic €1. Proton commented they really ought to've stuck to cars and their foray into MCs was a "mistake".
I'd offered €3 ($ 3.60) but promptly withdrew (the notorious takeoverus interruptus) when it was explained to me I would thereby undertake the company's debt as well (a mere €110-million, that is in excess of $130-million).
Agusta-MV build sexy bikes - like the Veltro above - but can't seem to be able to sell them for a profit. In recent times you could not get MV spare parts for months, as the company was hell-bent on building bikes (and shipping them to their dealers) in order to generate cash-flow instead of supplying much (and often) needed spare parts.
All right. Let's face it... nobody cares, really, about MV-Agusta. This was just an excuse to introduce my kid sister (above) to the FJR Forum community... I've described you guys to her in the most flattering terms...
