last night i was in the right lane of a 60 kmp zone. up ahead was a car in the left lane with left turn signal flashing. the car was slowing for the turn. so fine, just as i'm about to pass... the car makes a radical lane change into my path. (left signal still flashing) i did a violent right swerve that i'm rather proud of, then i jumped on the rear and grabbed all the front brake i could. my ABS is out and the sensor is on back order. i locked up the rear and fishtailed to the left, it felt like 90 degrees but it was probably 70. i let off the brakes and goosed the throttle a tad before the bike had stopped. the bike stood up and snapped back into it's lane position without the slightest wasted movement. there was no time to use my fisher price horn, but the two girls had all the windows down and heard some very loud and colorfull language from a gentleman rider.

i definately want my ABS back but i'm glad i didn't have it yesterday. if i hadn't locked up the rear and fishtailed i certainly would have hit that car.

You're lucky you didn't high side. I am not sure how you didn't under those conditions.

Moving this thread to the proper section............

i don't know either skooter. it all happened so quick. i wish i could see it on video to know if it was as dramatic as it seemed to me.

while i was scrubbing the river moths off the bike this morning, a customer told me about a rider following a a trailer full of lumber up the highway about a mile from here yesterday. sure enough, loose load, lumber put the bike down then caught the rider in the head. i get nervous every time i see a bike following to close.

i'm going to go get some lunch at a bike bar and see if i can find out more details.

there is no shortage of dangers out there.

you folks be careful on your reno ride. and have a great trip.

derek
