Just wanted to share my Autocom install with everyone. It is wired to my BlueSea power panel. So far I am piping my Garmin, XM-Roady, V1 Radar detector. I bought the dual setup so my lovley bride can hear me cuss the Harley trash  after I smoke pass them. I am using the supplyed helmet speakers, but I can also use my ear mold customs with the helmet lead I bought. The speakers could be a bit loader, but really about right not to loose focus of the road ahead. So far I am blown away with this stuff. I am going to use a Kenwood TK-3101 FRS-GMRS radio. The bike power setup should be here any day now  .

I also am going to use the Stealth Blade antenna, but not from Autocom. With some help from Mr. Wizard, he gave me the name of the maker Radial-Larsen Antenna's. Trouble is they won't sell to the public, and the lead time from all the dealers was around 4 to 6 week. Larsen did give me a name of a dealer with a open order due to ship on the 18th. I called that dealer, and it was not a problem for him to order it for me. The best part was the price.... Autocom wanted $89.95 and it comes with a 3 ft. coax that would be to short for my install. The dealer I bought from was $24.00 with a 12ft coax. He also said I could cut the coax shorter if needed and install a new end. Wow, now thats a great deal.... I am going to put the blade antenna on the inside if my dark windscreen so it can't be seen. Plus is should work good in the clean air, and not under the seat. Here's a few pic's of my install... Rob, thanks for your help and tips. I did get my radio to program. Don't really know what the problem was, but it will take QT code now without a problem. Thanks again, Smitty :yahoo:

Install looks nice!

For those of you with the wiring in the helmet coming out the side like that, do you notice any increase in wind noise?

Nice job Smitty.

Ponyfool, I have mine out the side like that, works great No additional noise as the wire is between the Helmut and the liner. I used a piece of duct tape to hold the wire against the Helmut shell.

Very nice job Smitty. :good: Make sure you give us a report on how the radio's work out for you and how the antenna looks after it is mounted. I may have to shuffle my Blue Sea and my Starcom around a little bit to accomodate.

Just a quickie, whats the law in the US regarding PMR446 radios? In the UK it is illegal to fit an external antenna, a lot of people do but I wonder when someone will actually fall foul of the regulations.

In the US they are referred to GMRS radios, and I don't believe any Euopean radios are compatible.

GMRS radios are very similar to FRS radios, except for a few important distinctions:1) GMRS radio use requires you to purchase an FCC operator's license.

2) GMRS radios generally achieve greater ranges than FRS radios.

3) While FRS radios may not legally be altered, GMRS radios may legally be outfitted or retrofitted with optional antennas, car antennas or home antennas to extend their range. For more information, please visit the FCC online at FCC.gov. Note: Some GMRS radios (those with non-detachable antennas) will not accommodate antenna alterations. If you intend to alter your GMRS radio, please take care to choose a radio with a detachable-style antenna that accommodates your needs.
