Well,

I had it all planned out to head from Lake Havasu City,AZ to Sutherlin,OR (1014 miles).

I didnt get the sleep the night before i left due to and the anticipation of doing it! :yahoo:

I made it 530 miles to Coalinga,CA and had to get a room :(

The next leg was 500 and i did it without getting tired... I think that i will do better next time, And get the rest needed before i start this again.

Man, It was HOT HOT HOT in the San Juaquin valley! :angry2: I rode all the night hours to avoid the daytime heat and i didnt get any relief till i got to Lake Shasta! What a culture shock! The temps dropped 30 degrees and i got real comfy riding without sweating! The heat is a killer, Thats for sure!

Cant wait to try this again! :yahoo:

PS.

Sorry for the rambling post, But my mind is fried right now!

No worries.

You made the right chice to stop vs. forging on and probably getting hurt or worse.

Try it again soon!

Good luck.

GZ

Lack of sleep because of anticipation has always been an issue for me, too. I'm guessing you didn't complete your ride successfully. Sorry to hear that but very proud of you for knowing when to pack it in and live to try another day.

I made to my destination... Just 8 hours longer that i wanted! I am going to stay in Sutherlin,OR till the 26th the head to WFO! :yahoo:

Congrats GalaxyBlue!!! Kudos!

Yep, riding in the extreme heat can be an ass kicker. Especially when short on sleep.

You done good, son.

Better luck next time :( I'm sure now that you know that you can do it, you will. Then you'll be hooked on LD rides. Better to be safe and stop if you are sleepy.

Good try! Very good on not pushing it!

I'm going to try a BBG on the way to Reno but I've got the route set that I can shorten it if I feel I need to or stop to sleep/eat/whatever and then take a shorter route and make it to Reno Thursday afternoon.

Safety is a lot more inportant than a licence plate frame!

The heat really makes a long ride even more challenging. That's probably a good thing for the experienced folks who want the additional challenge, but I'd recommend you make your next attempt in cooler weather.

Heat and lack of sleep don't go well together. That said, I thought the SS1 was 1000 in 24 hours. Did you stop in your room too long to make it within the time period alloted?

On my first SS1000 I rode from St. LOuis MO to Jacksonville FL. to the IBA party at bike week. I started ok but the weather was freakin unbelivable . In tennesse I hit severe storms with tornados in the area. I chose to give it up and get hotel. I then checked the weather on TV and set my alarm for 4:00 am. I got up and all was cear. I checked out of hotel and continued on I just made it into Jackson ville with minutes to spare.

Id say you did the right thing by stopping its sure not worth dying for.

Somehow I read that you still had made it. Ooops.
