Since I am looking for advice in the FJR forum, I figured I'd contribute something as well. Took my 4th trip to Indy to watch the MotoGP races again this year. I happen to be a photographer so I enjoy taking photos of the practices but just sit back and enjoy the actual race. Since I don't shoot races for a living and don't get a media pass I am just shooting from the general admission locations. There are only a few spots on the track that have don't have a view obstructed by the fence, so the angles are limited. This year I happen to catch Lorenzo's low side in turn 1 during the race day morning practice. Anyways, enjoy!

Thanks...I love MotoGP and started watching just when Rossi moved up to GP. I'm a huge Rossi fan! But also a Hayden fan as well. Here's my favorite Hayden shot from 2011 hamming it up down the back straightaway. If you look close you can see "Just Married" written on his helmet! Apparently that was to celebrate his sister's recent wedding, not his.

Awesome photos. What equipment are you using?
Canon 1DX (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_EOS-1D_X) with a 200mm f/1.8 lens (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_EF_200mm_lens) with a 2.0x extender, which makes it a 400 f/3.5 lens. The 200mm f/1.8 is a legendary lens that I bought used when it was 10 years old and paid $1000 more than the original price when it was new. At the time it was the sharpest lens ever created by any company. A few newer lenses are now as sharp (300 f/2.8 and 400 f/2.8) but the 200 f/1.8 is a gem. I mostly use it indoors where its light gathering capability is awesome.

On Lorenzo's crash I could have used a 600 or 800mm lens as they are heavily cropped, but the combination is perfect for the other locations.

Great pics! My son-in-law is a photographer as well and lives in Speedway so he attends most event practices as well and every year the speedway makes it harder to find good places for unobstructed shots.

+1, great photos! One of the most difficult things to do is panning. Your panning shots are very well captured, congrats and thanks!

Nice work !!! Great shots......

Don't tell them how many pictures you had to take to get those beautiful shots....

I'd be willing to bet the number to be in the thousands, which is my usual realm at SuperBike or LeMans to come home with 50-100 excellent pics !!

But its super nice when you get "The One !!"

Thanks for sharing..... I need a better camera body... something faster

Outstanding work! I'd call those posts a fair trade for whatever advice you get from the forum. In fact, the forum may be getting the better end of the deal! Looking forward to seeing more of your work.
