Garmin 396

This thing is a little pricey at about $2400. But as a part time pilot, and motorcyclist, being able to see that real time weather on the road or in the air could be a real plus. It switches back and forth from aviation to auto, and even to marine databases. Cool. If I throw it in my plane, and I have the GTX330 transponder, it even gives traffic alerts. Now that's just too sweet. This could be a nice adjunct for those of us who like to fly and ride. Now if I can just find a place to get that price down... a lot...

That is SWEEEEEET!!! I'm a pilot as well, and can well attest to flying in weather. Radar ROCKS!!! I'd love to have one, but that price is WAY out of my price range.

The Garmin 396 is sweet and very flexible, but as I have noted to you, it is out of most FJR forum member price range for a GPS system.

I think it is only available through Garmin Aviation dealers also and my company have no way to securing one for you if you wish to purchase one.

Oh Baby, Daddy Likes!!!!!!

That thing is awesome, considering all you get with it in terms of functions. Is it worth it? Wellllll, maybe much later if I find a lot of extra money (highly unlikely) or at least many hundreds of dollars less.

Why did you have to show me that? You know anything stamped "Aviation" costs 200% more.

WOW, Cool, whew!!!! I need to go ride now.

I have been salivating over one of those myself. Anyone heard what the weather data subscription costs from XMradio? Neat thing is, it incorporates XMradio so I could eliminate one box. I guess if I have to ask, I can't afford it.

Craig

They have a "Light" XM subscription for $30 a month and a full subsrciption for $50 a month. You can go to XMRadio.com and see the difference.

I'll be checking them out at Oshkosh in a couple weeks. Bet there's not much discounting going on.

Yes, it would eliminate one box. Now if it was a transciever, too, now THAT would be the berries!

Not in the same league but I like the Garmin Rhino 130 GPS with the built in radio.....Lets you see the location of your buddies on the display screen....Great if somebody misses a turn or stops.

I have a Garmin RINO 120, amoung other Garmins. I think it is one of the worst products Garmin has ever made, nearly a POS. I do use it, but it is quirky and inadequate. The basic functions work, but the tracking locks up the thing, so that's turned off. Routes lock it up, so that's off. The screen sucks, so the backlight is always on. Etc, etc, etc...

Having said that, it will be on my FJR at EOM (if not at the meet this weekend). So maybe I can actually use the radio feature. That does seem to work, and it does locate buddies. That's kinda cool. No one around here has one, though. So usually it's a waste of time.

Sounds like you got a dud....Have you checked for a Flash Update? I am also into ATVs and we all use them in the bush. They work well for us and they have survied in the harsh conditions. We ride all winter and often hit tempatures of -30 C. No problem with the units. (knock on wood)
