So, if I'm pulling the front wheel to change a tire, and it will only be off for 24 hours, and it's secure in my garage,

Could I just put the bike on the center stand, put 2 forty pound bags of rock-salt on the pillion seat, and tri-pod it on the back wheel? I did this many times with my Suz. Bandit...

Well, what if....

1) Someone bumped it?

2) There's an earthquake?

3) The dog knocks it over?

4) The cat jumps on the front end?

5) A flood sweeps away the rock salt?

6) Your neighbor steels the salt for making ice cream?

7) The earth stops rotating?

Just think.... Is it really safe???? :dribble:

8) Wife/girlfriend gets wildly horny and wants to do it on your bike while in the garage!

I've had a floor jack "leak down" overnight. I suggest putting the front axle back through the forks and using a small jack stand.

Works like a charm....

AHHHHH...that poor caliper hose.....And you call that a B.F.H.?...you're gonna need a bigger hammer for that job!

(that's exactly how my bike sat overnight Except a cinder block and a piece of wood replaced the floor jack.) Hardest part was getting the real wheel out.

Also, I'm not sure your bike likes the axle placement....I think that's illegal in some states.....(How would you like it?)

what is the c clamp for?????? Maybe to break the bead? I have replaced many tires on the fjr but there are a lot of tools I have not used to do it on the floor. I have a tire machine so maybe I dont need the hammer and clamp. Just wondering....

peace, TBW.

Only a masochist would use a C-clamp to break loose a tire bead.
Or someone who has no other way. I have observed people using vises, a board with a car driving on it or people jumping on it. I have had a tire changer for the last 20 years so I have not thought about what a person with limited / household tools would use. It would be interesting to hear what you could use in a pinch or on the side of the road.

I didn't need the clamp it was just out there. I did use the brass hammer to tap out the axle, though.
