Facts like maintenance schedules haven't been released yet, but that should be very similar to the new K1200 R and S models. The deals that give me pause are getting the plastic off to screw with it; The need to deal with computerized systems that control things like suspension, brakes fer' chrissake, and even delivery of power to the frigging tail light; The Mandatory nature of the servicing - and at a dealer - because hook-up to the dealer's diagnositic unit is required, and then that is in turn connected to THE BIG MF COMPUTER AT BMW CENTRAL.interesting, rdfranz. What are the maintenence intervals on that beemer? I had an RT(once) and valve adustments were every 4000 mi, if I remember correctly. Not a cheap experience either. Maybe my RT was a lemmon, but I'd freguently need a part while on a long trip and they'd say,"we'll have it next week".That sucks. I had none of these problems with Honda & my ST1100s.As I recently began looking for a new bike, BMW was not even a consideration. I ordered an 06' FJR.
How service gets handled, all this data acquisition, is alwo irksome to me. One owner was told that he had revved the engine too high, and run it for too long at high rpm during it's initial 600 miles.
Hello, Big Brother. Hello, Big ARROGANT Brother.
Is that kind of treatment rampant? No. But, there are hundreds of other Idiocies possible, far enough in number that they've proven to me to be inescapable. I don't need to take crap about my ownership of my motorcycle from The Company. And, I've never had to with the four Japanese companies I've patronized. That's PATRONIZED, as in SUPPORTED, and then being regarded as such, and then treated appropriately to that relationship.
In this world, not only do, "You get what you pay for", also, "You pay for what you get." And BMW gives you a lot. Including The Business.
Best wishes.
