This falls under the "it doesn't hurt to ask catagory".

I'm trying to buy a dirt bike from a guy in So. California. I want to fly to LAX, pick up the bike, do some off-road riding for a day or two, then load it up and drive back to Asheville, NC.

Only problem is, I can't find any rental companies that will do a one-way rental originating in CA, terminating in NC, with a pickup truck. I can only get trucks within the state of CA, or I can find cross-country one-ways, but only with sedans or vans full of seats.

Anybody have a suitable vehicle they want driven to the east coast from So. Cal?

I won't loan you a truck, but you could always try uncrated motorcycle shipping Federal offers AMA discounts if you're a member. I'd wager it's alot cheaper than gas at 13 MPG.

You could rent the truck in CA for round-trip, but then accidentally need to terminate your trip in NC. They'll add a little extra charge ($50-150) for the unscheduled drop. Just make sure you rent from a corporate entity, not a franchise operation.

You could try a ride finder type site like this:

Ride Share

Or this:

Hippie ride finder

Who knows, you might hook up with a bus load of freaky hippie chicks..... ;)

Don't know your age but college bulletin boards are usually full of people looking to share rides and with holidays coming up you could get lucky.

For what it's worth when FMG got hurt :cray: @ WFO this past July we shipped her (brand new) bike from Heber Utah to Chaffee NY with $10,000 no deductable insurance via Allied van lines thru AMA for $675.00 ....(approx 2,000 miles) this should give you a rough guideline if you want to go that route....
