I bought a used 2003 FJR1300 with low miles and drove it home today through Austin with the ROT (Republic of Texas) rally going on without incident but I am going to need some type of tool kit. I did have a friend drive me up there in his truck so if something did happen he could have helped me. I see a tool kit for a 1999 to 2003 Yamaha R1 / R6 for cheap on ebay and I am thinking well some kind of tool kit is better than no tool kit. Any suggestions from anyone on where to get or who to get a tool kit from ? Or would you be thinking like me on the tool kit on ebay ?

When I first saw the tools in the EOM kit, I just laughed and threw them in the trash. They looked like something made for a 4 year old. I made up my own tool kit with "real" tools. There are many good generic MC tool kits you can buy from dealers and acc'y stores such as www.whitehorsegear.com.

The OEM tools are pretty much junk, but don't throw out that big hex wrench for the rear axle! I couldn't find one of those anywhere the first time I tried to change the tire on my bike. I spent a lot of time looking before I thought of checking the onboard toolkit.

I went ahead and bought a tool kit on ebay, got it in the mail, and found out it was incomplete / not what was pictued on the auction. Paid $15.00 after a refund from the seller. Then bought another one on ebay for another $15.00 and have combined the two to get what I really needed.

Maffud,

I agree as the item I was looking for the most was the 27mm wrench for the rear axle. Now I have two. :)

I wanted it as a just in case kind of thing, because you never know and did not feel like carrying a full tool chest with a socket and ratchet set.

Thanks to all for the help / suggestions. I hope that this could help others as well.

One of my saddlebags is pretty full with a "homemade" tool kit and a "homemade" first aid kit. The heck with those pre-made kits. You know what you need. Put it together and find a container for it. I used the soft case my skil saw came in and an old camera bag. When you want a good screwdriver, you sure don't want a POS screwdriver. Ditto rolls of gauze, etc.

I hear what everyone is saying, (OEM tools are crap), and I agree, but if OEM tools are wanted, I have a complete kit that was salvaged off my totaled 2005. Not looking to make any money, just pay for shipping, perhaps?
