Not my bike but rider stranded on Cabot Trail

2008 - died while driving.  Every time he turns the key the fuel guage flashes 8 times but no start.

Suggestions ??

Thanks,

Per the Owner's Manual, when the fuel gage blinks, there is a fault in the fuel monitoring system.  I'd lift the tank and start looking at the connections.  Might just be a poor contact if they haven't been manipulated in awhile. Might be more serious.

According to the Owner's Manual, I quote:

This fuel meter is equipped with a self-diagnosis system. If a problem is detected in the electrical circuit, all display segments will start flashing. If this occurs, have a Yamaha dealer check the electrical circuit.
No suggestion that the bike won't start.

The only time I've seen this is when I was messing with my fuel gauge and turned the ignition on with the under-tank connector disconnected, I can't remember whether I triad to start it or not.

In any case, it does suggest a wiring fault .

(saread just beat me to it.)
