Title pretty much says it. Looking for a good rim for an '04 or '05 ABS.

Rather have one complete with rotor and ABS sensor, but round is the key.

Mine still works okay, I just don't care for running too long with a weak spot.

If you've got one you're not using, please let me know what you want for it.

Thanks,

RsvlFeej

I have my non-abs rim in the garage, I don't know all the differences but I did have it checked for true. It's round and only has 7,000 miles. Don't know if you can make it work but I'd be more than happy to have it out of the garage.

Thanks for the offer Kurt. I've certainly gotten more than my share of used bits out of your munched '05 already...

Unfortunately, according to a guy who should know (since he has an '04 ABS and an 04 non-ABS w/ 2 sets of wheels for each), ABS and non-ABS aren't swappable.

You're welcome SacramentoMike. I think the sacrificial wheel must've been some cosmic balancer responding to my threat to steal the bags off your new '05 when you announced you'd replaced your last one. OR I need to look into the shadows on the straight roads too, instead of ahead to the next curve.

Actually, you can put an ABS wheel on a non-ABS bike in a relatively simple manner. But unfortunately in your case, you CANNOT put a non-abs wheel on an ABS bike.

Here's a good thread on what you need to do to put ABS wheels on a non-ABS bike: RenoJohn's new wheels

I had my front wheel bent once and I had a shop straightened it to near perfect. It's been 10K since with no problem. https://fastforwardwheels.com/Contact_Us.html
I bent my rim on my old FZR1000 many moons ago. Actually split down the middle. What did I do??.........Rubber mallet and a tube.... worked until I sold it  and yes I did disclose that info to the buyer <_< In hindsight, it was not the smartest repair I've ever made. I hear that these shops that specialize in this repair are very good at what they do. Give it a try.

How big a rock was it??? or was it a cosmic singularity? those things are pretty dense you know

My boss is a car nut and told me about a good rim straightening place not too far from our office. I'm just leery of the ABS sensor getting buggered up and I HATE driving the pickup when the weather even approaches nice. Time to do some reading in the shop manual and the tech threads to see what's what.

Not too big a rock - I'd guess 2" x 3" x 4 - 5", just hit it wrong. If it was a cosmic singularity my new wormhole universe is remarkably like the old one - 'cept almost everybody's just the tiniest bit grumpier... Maybe I should try to go back.

Thanks everybody.

jefsantiago,

Do you recall a ballpark price for the repair? My front wheel seems to have a very small amount of "out of round", maybe 1/16th inch or slightly less. Not sure if it's causing a slight thump or if it's a not so hot front tire.

Does anyone know of a wheel shop closer to New England that might do this kind of work on bike wheels?
