Bought my 07 4 years ago and then found out it had been wrecked. {the seller knocked 2000 off the price when I called him on it}.

Rebuilder had tried to straighten and reweld the front stay, did a poor job, and everything on the front including the windshield has been crooked since I've had it.

Just was taking things apart in the front end to rebuild the front forks and kept going. {jwas trying to find the "auto windshield retractor" connector and it was so buried up in the front stay that I had to tear the whole thing apart.

No sense not replacing the stay now that all the work is done.

Anyone know where a good one is? There's a couple on Ebay 159 and 174 dollars. If no one comes up with one, I will get one of those.

Thanks,

On my gen 1, I replaced the stay with a new one after the crash - like yours, it was torqued pretty bad. But after that, when I clipped a patio post and broke the mirror tab, I had a good welder re-attach it, and then weld some triangular gussets on each mirror tab. Charged me $50.00 to do it and holy moly - what a difference. In addition to being 10x (or more) stronger, the vibration in the mirrors went away.

Consider that, my friend.

The stay has already been welded, very imperfectly, about halfway between the mirror bracket and the middle. Not much chance of bending it and rewelding it to get it right. I would do what you are saying if it were just the end that was corrupt. Thanks, Phil
