Well, on a trip to the Dragon (or more precisely, on the way home) I got tagged by a LEO for speeding as I was descending the mountians on westbound I-24. So now I need to find a lawyer to help me with this--anybody know or recommend anyone in that area??

Thanks in advance. :)

I don't know any in the area but you definatley need to request a jury trial. It will drag out for a while and eventually might get dropped alltogether. Short of that, see if the Tennessee bar association has a referral service. In SC, attorneys will give you a free hour of consultation to decide if they want to take your case and work out the fees.

ohhhh....I was speeding but it wasn't my fault. Now I'm not going to take responsbility for my actions....I'm going to spend $500.00 on a $100.00 ticket....that bad cop....who will make a couple hundred bux on O.T.....

sheeshhhh....now why was it that my kids lie and blame everyone else????

that seems pretty harsh. Everybody I know would hire a lawyer for a speeding ticket, it's pretty much an automatic thing.

Contact the jurisdiction and explain that you are not guilty, but that the distances involved mean that the cost of paying the ticket will be less than the cost to fight it - so ask that they merge the charge because you have a clean driving record and won't fight a non-moving violation, but (and without malice) tell them that you WILL request a jury trial and will contest a moving violation.

Works every time for me.

"merge the charge" ?

Is that code-word for something? Converted to parking-type ticket? I've never heard that.

Woody became somewhat of an authority on the subject quite recently, he probably has some good advice of his own for ya..... ;) :D

I recently got tagged in southern KY I just search the local yellow pages called an attourney in the area and got all resolved no problem.

This is the best method as it will help keep insurance cost affordable. Just paying the fine will almost always result in more expensive insurance. and no Im not a freakin attourney.

Must be a Canadian thing...

Hmm, what crawled up your ass and died? I never lied, to the cop or anyone else, nor insinuated that I had.

You have kids? you mean, with that attitude (and ready willingness to jump to accusations) you could find a woman who would spend the two minutes in bed with you that it would take to produce offspring? More than once?

Now how about you drink a nice big mug of STFU.

I responded to a lawyer, speeding ticket a few days ago on dcsportbike.net.

The guy paid for a lawyer and $1000 later really didn't get much of a break that I couldn't have gotten by myself.

I will repeat my experience, short story.

I was 23, divorced, $7.50 Hr, $500 month child support court ordered, living in the back of my truck.

I wanted to get my child support lowered. My ex's lawyer was willing to write up paper reducing it to $300 but in my mind a lawyer couldn't over rule what a Judge had put into affect.

So I felt I needed a lawyer. Told him my story and he requested his money.

Money paid and a few days later his suggestion to me was, "I would take her lawyers deal if I was you."

I almost fell out of my chair, f**king jerk! He knew I was struggling but had no problem taking my $500.

Modern day I go to court on my own all the time for traffic tickets. I have learned that mostly the courts just want their money.

If they stop you for a $185 fine with points and such I have found that if you go in with a quilty plea and that you would just like to have the penalty reduced they generally will but they still want their $185 plus court cost.

Now you may get a judge who in the very beginning say to everyone, "If you are here to get points reduced I can not reduce points for traffic violations".

Now this is true but this is not what you want to request.

If you were sited for doing 16 over, 5 points, $185 fine you want to request that they give you a reduction in how much over the limit you were doing. Sure there is a better name for it.

My last was just this and they reduced it to 9 over limit which is only 1 point but again they kept their $185...

At least my insurance won't be what kills me for the next 3 years :D

A lawyer wouldn't do much more for you but take your money...

Whats alll this divorce crap got to do with a dam speeding ticket. You got a bad lawyer there are rotten apples in every profession that doesnt mean all lawyers are bad.

What the Lawyer does is get it reduced to a non moving violation throgh plea bargin so that you dont have to pay higher insurace. Yes sometimes you can get that done on your own but who wants to screw with going to court. Get a lawyer from the local area ther all buddies with the prosecuters anyway and pay them there 100 bucks, pay the fine and ticket seems to dissapear. Insurance man never knows.

Point is douche bag is for every ticket I have ever gotten I have gotten it reduced on my OWN to no points except for my last one which I don't think a lawyer would have done anybetter.

My divorce example was to also show that what I had gotten on my own was as good as what the lawyer would have done for me.

I have been to enough traffic ticket court cases and watched what people with lawyers end up with and I have done just as well by myself.

Now if you were having a freaking murder case against you or something no I would not be saying do it on your own. TWO different things...

ALSO WHERE DID I SAY ANYTHING ABOUT ALL LAWYERS BEING BAD. READING COMPREHENSION PLEASE!

have you tried a site called Tic Fix or something like that. friend of mine does it LA and Mississippi and I know they have outlets all over the country. Most times the offender doesn't even go to court.
