Need help with a 2004 chevy 3500 brakes

I am trying to pull my front rotors so I can get them turned. Normally you pull the dust cover then carter key then king nut. Then pull the rotor towards you and it comes right off.

Well I have pulled the dust cover, not carter key, no king nut. There is a regular nut (pulled) and a washer behind that (pulled). This is the point that I expect to drop the rotor in my lap as I pull towards me. NO GO. I am still not to the bearings, and I don't see anything else to remove. The spindle is surrounded by a gap with many small teeth going around it. Inside (recessed)this gap is a washer (for lack of a better description) with teeth to fit in those teeth. I see no way to pull the rotor off and as I pull on the rotor all it does is pull me across the floor.

Ideas?

Oh, and it is a 4x4

I really don't know what I'm talking about, but since no one else has answered:

I remember seeing a mechanic type show on speed where they were working on one of the new GM trucks and it had floating half-axles. (4wd) If I remember the show correctly, you had to pull the half-axle out before the brake disc could be removed.

Go buy a cheap manual from Autozone

 
Buy a set of torches.. start just outside of the pumpkin with the cut.. :p . Sorry I can' t help Fencer..

 
I have a '94 K3500. The rotors are original. Everyone I asked about replacing the rotors has told me that they are pressed on. I'd like to know what you find once you get this solved because eventually I'm going to have to replace mine.

This is what I found after A LOT of looking. Looks Like a real PITA.

And through all the searching I come to find out that chevy has crap rotors, bearings, and abs sensors.

I was wondering why I had to do the rear brakes at 30,000 and now the front at 45. And it looks like I need to pay close attention to the bearings as well :angry2:

Thanks for the link. The procedure looks pretty similar to changing the hub on my other vehicles except that the parts are bigger and heavier and everything is tighter.

I have over 200k miles of fairly light use on my truck and have had no problem with wheel bearings. I have changed the brake pads a couple of times but not the rotors. I think you can get the hubs with bearings and new rotors already on them from aftermarket suppliers. In general GM rotors are prone to rust easily and I would replace them with after market parts, but you'll probably have to order them if you want anything better than bottom of the line.

My truck is a crew cab that I use as a family vehicle for vacations and the occasional trip to Home Depot.
