I am looking to stop in Santa Fe on Saturday, September 19th for the night. Any interesting place I should stay or must eat at? Same questions for Albuquerque on the way home, Monday night, September 28th. You locals always know best so I'd appreciate any advice you have. Seems like there should be something worth doing in each town.

TIA, can't wait to ride through and see more of NM! Loved what I saw last year in Santa Rosa and Taos.

https://www.elkhornlodge.net/index-2.html In 2005, Reid Hester got us rooms for SW-FOG at the Elkhorn Lodge in Chama NM

Rio Chama runs right behind the Lodge and I rented fishing gear; caught some nice trout. Cafe has some really great food!!

One of the very nicest things about staying in Chama is riding Hwy. 84 North from Espanola, then Hwy. 64 West to Shiprock!

Chama may be a bit far for me in a day, I'm just not sure. I am leaving DFW early that morning and I have seen Chama before, a year ago last weekend actually. My destination on Sunday is Gunnison, so I'm not really looking to go as far as possible on Saturday. Last year I left FTW at 6 am and arrived in Santa Rosa at 2 pm (with time change). I definitely felt I coulda gone further but how much further, I don't know. So I figured I'd tack on another hundred miles/2 hours and see how that fits me. That leaves a nice 320 mile ride up to Gunnison on Sunday, seeing the same stuff until South Fork, with the exception of 84, as I came from Taos as last year. It will be nice to see different stuff this time. I don't have to stay in Santa Fe but am not really looking to go further north either. If there's good reason, doing Albuquerque twice is ok.

So far I'm seeing a Courtyard in SF for $109 that looks like the best option. They have a restaurant but if there's something better I should hit, lemme know. Do we have any SF riders here? :dntknw: Anyone want to come have dinner or a cocktail with me? I'm likely to cause trouble if left on my own.

Lodging: The El Rey. '50s style, clean, as affordable as anything decent in SF will be. Not w/in walking distance to downtown but a straight shot there. They have a good breakfast or there is a diner just north of there that is a 2 min walk.

Other eating: La Choza...sort of hard to find but between downtown and El Rey; Harry's Roadhouse; the Shed.

In Albuquerque: Eat at Sophies; check out the revitalized downtown area.

If you get back through Taos: Eat at Orlandos.

Have fun. I'll be in Taos and SF, sans bike, in about a week. Can't wait. El Rey is booked so not sure where we'll stay. Probably farther down the strip in a franchise motel.

In Santa Fe, check out Garrett's Desert Inn (Garrett's). Reasonable prices and w/in walking distance of the downtown plaza (mucho shopping). It has outside hallways in a U-shape building so, if you get a ground floor room, you can park your bike just outside your door. Restaurant in the main building.

Upper Crust Pizza is abt 1 blk up the street. More expensive dining at Pink Adobe across the street from Upper Crust.

I've stayed there often and will stay there again on my next visit to SF.

You running over to SWFOG by yourself?
Well sorta, somewhat. I'm headed to Gunnison for 3 days first and that part will be alone. Then Okierider and I will head to Moab on Thursday and then to Page for the rally. I'm staying Sunday in Phoenix with BeemerDons and then heading home alone. I know you have time off, please don't let me absence stop you from joining us. I do prefer to ride alone when going from point A to B but I also love doing the dayrides in groups!
