John, Thanks for the PM alerting me to this thread. I somehow missed it this weekend.

The curious looking "Hobbit Hut" is actually something more mystical than just an old root cellar. It is known as "Calendar II" because the sun rises and shines through the stone door frame to hit the back wall two times each year, on the solstices. Who it was that built the stone chamber, what it was used for, and exactly when it was built are all mysteries. I can tell you first hand that a solo visit on a misty morning is an other worldly experience. Really cool.

The megalithic shelter is located on private property (which is the real reason for a need to be super stealthy) but although the perimeter is marked with "No Trespassing" signs, the property owners do not mind folks visiting as long as they are respectful. Speaking of the property owners, they are some pretty interesting characters in their own rights. Their names are Ann Johnston and Pritam Singh. I'll leave it up to you and your friend Google to get their stories.

It is only a hundred yards or so up a bridal path, just off of the public (unpaved) road, but you would never find it without some good clues, which are pretty hard to come by.

My pictures of Calendar II from my first visit:
