Just throwing this out here. I was one of the first one's to sign up with my dealer, Concord Yamaha, Ca., to have them order a replacement ECU, and they said many weeks ago it was ordered. I've made more than one call to them and they said it is on order still. I know those who live at higher altitudes are suppose to get their's first, but noted some who are not got their's along time ago. My next step is to call customer support at Yamaha. Anyone having a problem getting this done? Thanks in advance, PM. <><

Sorry to hear this...

My experience was quite the opposite, actually. I called my Service Advisor (Nate Kulland @ Beaverton Honda-Yamaha) on Friday evening, 10/26, to let him know that I'd gotten "the letter", and he called me back 11 days later (Tuesday, 11/6) to tell me to stop by the next morning to swap ECUs. I did, and my bike was in and out in under 30 minutes.

Didn't have any problem with my dealer, the ECU came in less than a week, and they installed it in 30 minutes. Is there another Yamaha dealer you can go to?

It was the same for me Painman. I notified my dealer of the service bulletin immediately after it was posted here and they just called me yesterday to tell me they had received it. Under most situations I would just say it was my dealer holding up the works but in this situation I actually believed her when she said that it took Yamaha that long to ship. For those of you waiting to pounce, I'm NOT complaining so save the dogpile, I'm just passing along information.

Service dept ordered ECU yesterday, came in today. Just need to drop by anytime for replacement. This is easy money for these guys and they should be quite accomodating.

I presented a printed copy of the Tech Notice, along with my vehicle registration VIN to my dealer, within a couple days of its release. They ordered the replacement ECU and received it within a week. Took my bike in the next day and 20 minutes later was done. Cost: $0.00

Maybe the initial replacment ECU batch has been used and they are now on backorder?

I took my bike in for it's first service a couple of weekends ago. Service manager mentioned there was a recall on the ECU and asked if I wanted it replaced during the service as he had a couple in stock.

Obviously I said yes, but did comment that I had not received the letter, nor had I noticed any issues.

Guess it just depends on your dealer.

My dealer told me they could get authorization from Yamaha to pay to overnight it if I wanted. I told the service guy it wasn't necassary. They ordered and it took a week or so to get in.

I think you need to crack a whip under the dealer your using. Call up Yamaha customer service and see if you can get them to send one to the dealer. When it arrives ask why you have to do their job. :)

My "issue" had been on file with the dealer for several weeks when the official bulletin was released. I had to call Yamaha customer service and they volunteered to contact the dealer for me and hold their hand. If it had not been for the ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL customer service folks at Yami, my dealer would still be scratching their a$$ and saying "we ain't heard about no recall".

Then again, I've had ongoing issues with the dealer's service manager and he's not exactly prone to put me at the top of his GOOD list.

My advice, if the dealer is jacking you around or seems unwilling to help, call Yami customer service and ask for help.

Dealers love to use the excuse of "we don't sell enough of these to...". IMO, if they sell one, then they should service it with the same vigor as the masses they sold, but then again maybe they are!

Having Problems? Oh yea

After a previous run in Beaverton Honda (Nate is great, but he is the only one) I tried Oregon City, just after the bulletin came out, they never called me back, basically blew me off. So then I tried Pro Caliber Motorsports in Longview WA (after a tip from a buddy)

At first they knew nothing, but at least they called me back. Got my letter from Yamaha, called them again. This time was told to bring the bike in, and then they would order the part. They would only have my bike 5-7 days!!!!!!!

So now I'm trying Pro Caliber in Vancouver. Maybe, just Maybe I'll have better luck, but not counting on it. Can't believe it's this fraking hard!!!

Stopped at my local dealer to see what I needed to do about warranty transfer on my new to me 07. Dealer took care of changing names so I would recieve any future notices. I ask about the ECU recall they said no problem called me 5 days later and ask if I could bring it in and they would replace it while I waited. Just haven't been able to get away from work to have it done. The dealers been great and I did not buy the bike from them.

I took my bike in to get new tires (Beaverton Honda/Yamaha). They called me and said, "We have a recall on your bike (ECU), do you want us to replace it while we have it?"

Just like that, done the same day.

I didn't ask, they did it on their own. I don't live in high elevation, and I never complained about the old one (although it was ever so slightly symptomatic, but they didn't know that).

Yep, Painman, you are gettin' lip service from your dealer. Called my small-town dealer, who had not heard of the recall. He ordered, called me back in less than 2 weeks, and installed in 30 minutes.

I approached my dealer about a week before the service bulletin came out and told him he would probably get it the next FRI. I called back the next Mon and they said they already ordered it and to bring it in a couplre of days later. I left it with them and they fixed it in a couple of days.

Took my dealer a week to get the ECU, heck I'm having a bigger problem getting a tire.......back ordered for two weeks.

yes having problems with dealer in CC TX doesnt want to do it because I didnt buy bike from them-havent had time to call Yamaha yet they may change his mine although the dealer will probably put me at the back of the service line as warranty work doesnt pay the same as non warranty

GP Sports in San Jose. Stopped the day after the bulleting was posted here and had the part within one week. Sorry to hear a Bay Area dealer is treating you this way.

Got my letter a month ago, stopped by with the letter 2 1/2 weeks, got a call Monday to bring the bike in, picked up bike today! Sorry to hear Painman that your having trouble with the shoptards at your stealership.
