Some of you may remember my post back last spring about the loss of our best friend of 15 years, Taz our cocker spaniel. That was a difficult time for my wife and I as we have no children and Taz had become our child of 15 years. Enter now a new phase. This is both a good and sad story.

Here is a pic of my wife w/two puppies, story to follow below:

These two pups are mutts in the truest since of the word. They were brought home by our irresponsible next door neighbor which I affectionatly refer to as butthead. The worse redneck in all of Mississippi. Why he brought them to his house.........I have no idea. He would not take care of them, not feed them, not give them medical care, not give them any attention whatsoever. So naturally they wondered and in time made it down to our house. Of course wifey is going to love on them. I told her not to get attached as they were not our dogs. She swore she would not feed them (yea right!). The above pic was taken back around the first part of Oct. I left on my trip to Deals Gap and when I returned the puppies were still coming over and of course we both would pet them and give them attention..........and occasionally when wifey was away I admit, I slipped them a piece or 2 of bread as they were starving.

Last week after work I went home and started raking in the yard and over comes the little black puppy but no blonde pup. I figured he would be along shortly but he never showed. Wifey came home and inquired Where's the blonde? response....I have not seen it. Wifey worried about that puppy all night. The next morning she rode by butthead's house and saw the blonde pup laying under a junk pickup truck, she thought he was asleep so she went to work. That afternoon still no blonde pup, she went back over to butthead's and the puppy was still lying under the truck, no one was at home so she pulled down the driveway and the pup did not move. She got out and ck'd and the blonde pup of course was dead. I have no idea what killed him, oh man that was one long night at the donaldb house. She went over the next day with a blanket she had put on our carport for the puppies to sleep on and advised butthead his puppy was dead would he please do the decent thing wrap it in the blanket and bury it. Man was wifey pissed and rightfully so. Butthead advised her that he did not want the puppies, that his girlfriend had brought them over and left them and if she wanted the other one to please take it...........enter stage right.........Sam:

So, I was not yet ready for another dog and likely would not have picked Sam but I have learned sometimes pet's pick you rather than you picking them. The thought of being unwanted was just to much for my stomach to handle. We had talked about taking Sam to a no kill shelter, but he has had a such a rough start in life and I just could'nt live with the thought that he still was'nt wanted when I had no valid reason not to give him a home. So we are now the proud new parents of a certified paper tot'n pedigree "**** Eater", and a great little mutt he is. I just wish his playmate was still around........he would have had a home too.

Good for you Donald. You will soon learn, if you haven't already, there are some really good things about mutts. I will never bother with an AKC dog again. My current dog is a hybrid between rotweiler and german shep... looks like a big version of Sam. People that love their dogs are generally good people...you can stay with us anytime you want a vacation in Cali :)

Great save donaldb, both my girls dogs are rescue dogs that chose them. All partys couldn't be happier.

Good on ya DonaldB.. you 'B' da man. In my world, dogs rock. Most people suck. Not all, but most. And your but head neighbor sucks worst than most. As I type this, my black lab/heeler mix mutt lays on my toes awaiting bedtime.. did I mention that Dogs ROCK? ...and therefore.. humans who also take love dogs ROCK?

What a lame ****** your neighbor is. Girlfriend's dogs or not, letting them starve is not nice at all. I'm not a big animal rights nut, and I don't call the cops every time my neighbor does something I don't like. But I would seriously consider reporting this ******* to animal control authorities. Or maybe just taking a big fat **** on the seat of his pickup truck, to let him know how I feel.

Good on ya, at least, for saving the other dog before he starved that one to death as well.

Good for you on saving the puppy. My wife and I have a mutt she found starving on the street, and she is the best dog I have ever had.

As far as your neighbor, keep in mind that some people are alive simply because it is illegal to kill them. Asshats like that are using up oxygen that is meant for the rest of us.

Watch "Animal Cops" on the critter channel sometime. Enough to make you scream. It's impossible to save them all-but we have two shelter cats, who have lived in luxury since acquisition, at least some of them make it. Good job Donald, he's a friend for life, be sure.

Pretty strange how things work out sometimes...If the blonde dog hadn't laid it down, neither one of them would probably ever make it over to your place to live a life befitting of all dogs. They are the epitome of unconditional love. Probably not a coincidence that it's god spelled backward. My name spelled backward is boB.

Good on ya DB :clapping: I hope Sam gets a good long life with you.

Good on you DB! Takes people like you to make up for ******** like the person that lives next to you (can't call him a "neighbor"). You kinda have to live down here to understand what he means by "Worst redneck in Mississippi". Sometimes, you just have to shake your head and wonder what was God thinking when he put that particular piece of slime here. But then again, he also put cockroaches and leeches here. Go figure. Still proud of ya

Our first dog was a Malamute Lab cross. Then we raised Huskies & Malamutes. We stopped raising them, but still had a number of dogs. One day a mutt comes down the road. There were other places but he made it known he wanted to live here. I did the Red Skeleton 'Clyde Kadiddlehopper' act as unusual behavior dogs don't understand keeps them away. Well at first the wife leaves him water, then she leaves him food. We didn't know his age, but it was 6 months or less. Except for smaller feet he is a dead ringer for our first mutt, minus the 'Lionheart'. I thought he was a military ditched dog. He is fine with me untill I am dressed in MC gear then he is afraid of me. I think to him it looks like a uniform. I never thought he would fit in with the big Malamute, but he is not political and get along fine. It's not too late to get the pup a companion. TJ
