Crazy how the carpool lane fine is higher than driving on the shoulder, which for obvious reasons, is dangerous.

you might want to pass this along to people who might not know : )

New Driving Fines for 2007

1. Carpool lane - 1st time $1068.50 starting 7 /1/07 (The $271 posted

on the highway is old). Don't do it again because 2nd time is going to be

double. 3rd time triple, and 4th time license suspended.

2. Incorrect lane change - $380. Don't cross the lane on solid lines or intersections.

3. Block intersection - $485

4. Driving on the shoulder - $450

5. Cell phone use in the construction zone. - Double fine as of 07/01/07.

Cell phone use must be "hands free" while driving.

6. Passengers over 18 not in their seatbelts - both passengers and drivers get tickets

7. Speeders can only drive 3 miles above the limit.

8. DUI = JAIL (Stays on your driving record for 10 years!)

9. As of 07/01/07 cell phone use must be "hands free" while driving.

Ticket is $285. They will be looking for this like crazy - easy money for police department.

About friggin time they updated things to encurage the idiots to drive legal. I think they should raise the cell phone one to $2850 tho :p

Set me straight on the carpool lane thing. If I have a back seat it has to be occupied? If I have a single seat motorcycle can I ride in the carpool lane? What about the toll bridges? I think I goofed and road in the fastrak lane once without paying. I now keep a fastrak tag in my jacket pocket when crossing the bridges.

Not to hijack the thread, but one can go to FasTrac's website and enter all your different vehicle licence numbers. I havn't carried my FasTrac thang for a couple years! Just sayin...

Carpool is 2 or more in most places. some places it's restricted to 3 or more people per vehicle. Motorcycles have been granted federal access to all carpool lanes reguardless of the number of people on the bike. Some places may specificaly post a motorcycle restriction.

Edit: Forgot to add about the tolls. Motorcycles are bridge toll exempt durning commute hours only. Off commute hours, regular tolls are in effect. Don't know if that aplys everywhere, but it's true in the bay area.

I did that when I got a plate, but I didn't have one when I went through the first time. Thanks for the clue on not carrying one on a regular basis.

All state run bridges, not the Golden Gate. It is privately contracted.

So do they just debit your account? They used to send me notices when my fast track did not activate. But lately I haven't got one. Sometimes if I forget to put it on the bike I still use the fast track lanes and raise my hand for the camera like I have it in hand. LOL

You might want to double check that. According to the Golden Gate Bridge Web site

CarpoolsOn the Golden Gate Bridge, carpool vehicles with three or more persons, motorcycles, and buses, receive free toll passage between the hours of 5 am to 9 am and 4 pm to 6 pm, weekdays, except on these observed holidays: New Year's Day; Washington's Birthday (third Monday in February); Memorial Day (last Monday in May); Independence Day (July 4); and Labor, Thanksgiving, and Christmas days. Two-seater vehicles do not qualify as a carpool on the Golden Gate Bridge. Carpools require three or more persons for two primary reasons: to help alleviate traffic congestion and to remain within the budgetary requirements of the Bridge District. Vehicles with dual tires are NOT eligible as carpools.
Last time I crossed I asked about that when they had me stop and pay. I was outside of the commute hours, so I got stuck digging out my wallet

I've had two tickets, $30 each, for blowing through the toll booth. Once the Fast Trac was in my tank bag map pocket that never registered. Another time I had it in my hand and somehow it never registered as I waved it at the sensor. I can't contest them either as it's a Co registered pass  and can't add my bike to it without the secrect password that accounting won't give me ! :angry2:

Dammit Rogue, you're too fast for me. After some EXTENSIVE searching I came up with nothing and headed to Snopes just as you posted this. Thanks for the debunking info.

If they do, and it's in relation to a Federally funded project such as carpool lanes, they would be breaking a Federal rule and can be taken to court.

The AMA dragged the City of Houston into court when they tried to deny motorcycles in the carpool lanes they had just built. The City lost.

Too bad this one is not true! So since it isn't can we shoot them?? :trinibob: :elf:

motorcycles are allowed in the carpool lane with only one person on board.
