Wow, what a great review of the new Gixxer 1000 in the latest issue of MCN magazine. I've subscribed to MCN almost from their get go 15 years or so ago and I don't ever remember a review where they gave a bike 5 star ratings in every single category but one (Style--they gave it a 4 star). Even their engine performance rating was 5 start in all three categories--Low End, Mid Range and Top End. Evidently the fuel injection is absolutely spot on in every range. The bike set the fastest quarter mile and 0-60 mph times of any bike ever tested by MCN, including the Busa. And they rated it outstanding in handling and comfort for street riding. I don't think I've read a review in MCN where they have raved so much about a new bike.

As much as I love my '04 FJR, if I thought I could turn the Gixxer 1000 into a decent sports touring bike, I'd sell the FJR in a minute and go for it. Altho I'm probably getting too old to handle that forward riding position for any long distance riding. My son and I have older Gixxer 750's and I'm only good for a couple hours riding that.

Yep, I read that twice. My heart keeps going , "Yeah, yeah", but my brain keeps saying, "You can't fold up like that anymore. You couldn't ride that all day like the FJR. That is a 1/2 hr. bike and you have enough trouble controlling your right wrist."

I hate it when my brain sounds like my father. Especially when I know my brain is right and my heart is foolish. Still, it looks like it'd be waaaayyyy fun! If only I could justify that purchase..... Of course, since I doube I get all there is from the FJR, I'd probably be riding the GZXR 1000 at about 20%-30% of its capabilities.

Been hanging around my local UJM looking at the used mid-size bikes hoping to pick up a trade in for my daughter. ... They have the 'Busa, R1 and GSXR1000 all together at one end of their line of new bikes and every time I go in there I find myself drawn over there to look for five or ten minutes. I think the salesman is hoping I buy something soon so he won't have to wipe my drool off those bikes every couple of days. I like the look of the R1 best but looks are not the most important factor to me. I'm afraid to read the test report because my will power is already weakening.....

I've been giving the new GSXR-750 the evil eye for the last few months since sitting on it at the Novi, Mi. bike show. Brochure lives on my bedroom dresser mirror propped open to the 2 page spread of the blue & white rounding a corner.

Checked them out again at the dealer this weekend, fortunately only the red/black and black/yellow models were assembled so I came home with the wallet intact. The black/yellow combination was sorely tempting though ! :D

They promised the blue/white combo would be on the floor by next weekend- oh-oh :dribble:

Spent a few minutes checking out the 1000, it's a real magnet but I figure it would kill me for sure if the insurance didn't beat it to it.

I traded bikes with a riding buddy for part of an afternoon... he had a Gixxer1K w/ full exhaust. If I can ever swing a 2nd bike, that will be it. :dribble:

Matt Mladin does pretty good on his. ;)

Lee, I came across these, a potential fix for your fix:

Converti Bars

As often as I ride solo (99%), I too want to take a sportbike & make it "tourable." Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits fame had a CBR RR made "tourable." It's only money! And too bad he took a serious spill on it...

Mike, that ain't yer heart talkin' there bud. Thats them danglies a little further down. :erm:

Be careful, them rascules will get yer butt in hotter water than either yer heart or yer brain will be happy with. :D

I just saw this thread. Funny. That review in MCN is part of the reason I cancelled my R1 deposit last week and got this:

It's been raining a lot but I've had it up in the mountains once and it is totally fantastic in every way. I think the R1 looks better but this was the better bike for me and I never even saw it coming - never considered a GSX-R before a few weeks ago. I still have the FJR for longer stuff. :)

Here's a recent superbike shootout.

Does Suzuki having a Screamin' Eagle™ type kit so you can help the Gixxer breath? Cams, straight pipes, heads, etc. On second thought maybe not. With 180hp in a 375lb package this bike should have it's own ticket dispenser. A full tank of gas and a rider and you are about 3.5lbs per horsepower! :devilsmiley:

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And XLR8's Suzuki looks better to me than the R1 he backed out on to get it, so IMO it's a perfect score, assuming looks and style are the same. Did they have a looks category?

All I can say is, "*******". That is an awesome ride...

Enjoy!!!

What's the song on the converti - bars (see em in action) video??
La Grange- ZZ Top

I highly recommend most of their stuff. Seen 'em in concert 4 times over the years.

Thanks Bob - been whistling and humming that tune for years now and never knew what it was!

Frick! Thanks a lot. I never knew I wanted a Gixxer until seeing the pic and reading the review. Now what am I going to do? Having these feelings as a waiter could be very expensive.

I'm probably getting too old to buy another Gixxer (I have an older but VERY FAST 750 GSXR) but I'm giving some serious thought to the '06 Gixxer 1000. Have read three reviews now and every one has raved about the bike, not a single negative, other than some reviewers weren't all that crazy about the style, especially the pipe (I think it looks great, better than the R1 as far as I'm concerned). For $11,000, it's a super high tech bargain. I'd probably keep my '04 FJR for longer trips, but if I could figure out a way to turn the Gixxer 1000 into a fullblown super sports tourer, I'd dump the FJR for the Gixxer in a minute.

I don't know how old you are but I'm almost 43. I had my doubts about the riding position but I gave in to logic.

"I better try one of these bike before I'm too old to handle the riding position"

Dontcha think that's logical? B)

As far as the exhaust goes, I really like it in person. It's a nice piece. It sounds good too.
