2001 to 2013.... is the ES version really covered ?
That would very UNlikely be a no since the ES started with 2014...unless the somehow they have a wormhole to drop things through.

Also, the Haynes does cover some work in great detail while omitting a whole lot of other things that are in the FSM. The FSM is very unfriendly to a non-mechanical type person whereas the things that Haynes does cover are more detailed for the average guy.

It's not a "new" edition, it's the same one they've always had. Well, "always" in the sense that it was introduced a couple of years ago.

Hope it's a bit more complete than the first one.
Let me know the area of incomplete-ness and I'll let you know what it shows. I never had the first manual, so I cannot compare.
Without trawling through the whole manual, one obvious example is about error codes. They are listed in a brief manner, then we are told to check sensors and connectors, finally:

If this fails to reveal the cause of the problem, or if there is a problem but no fault code is shown, the motorcycle should be taken to a Yamaha dealer for testing. They will have the special tools that should locate the fault quickly and simply.
So, nothing about how to access the fault code history or clearing the codes. Same with the YCC-S system diagnostics, a list of Sh codes and brief meaning, but nothing about adjustments, history and clearing.

The electrical diagrams cover all years up to and including 2013 (and presumably to 2015 unless there have been changes), but nothing about the electric suspension version, and, for the majority on this forum, not the US version(s), although the differences are mainly cosmetic.

For the record, I did find a very minor error on the wiring diagram of the 2013, just a switch label that might cause a problem to some. I reported it and got an acknowledgement that it was wrong.

My email to them:

I have the Haynes FJR1300 repair manual, covering up to year 2013. I have notices what appears to be an error on the wiring diagram for the 2013-on models. Page 8.38, top right-hand corner, there is a switch labelled "Grip heater cancel switch", I believe this should be the "Cruise control cancel switch".
I am purchasing a UK specification 2014 FJR1300AS. Your manual doesn't cover the AS model, will you be bringing out a manual to cover this?

One other comment, I was disappointed on page 2.43, section 20.9, to see no information about using the YCC-S diagnostics. The "special tool" referred to is simply a shorting link, enabling many features of the system to be checked and adjusted. I have used this on my previous 2010 FJR1300AS, it's an easy enough mechanism.

Their reply:

Thank you for your email concerning our FJR1300 manual.
Having referred back to the manufacturer's factory manuals I can confirm that the switch labelled Grip Heater Cancel Switch in the 2013 model wiring diagram is actually the Cruise Control Cancel Switch.

At the time our manual was published last year the AS version of the new styled 2013 model had not been released and technical information only existed for the standard model. This is something we'll rectify when the manual is updated, but that may not be for a year or two yet. Much will depend on the demand for later model coverage and the point at which stock of the original edition has sold through.

The special tool referred to in the YCC-S check on page 2.43 is as you point out merely a wiring sub-loom, and it's not clear what reason the author had for not including mention of it. Possibly this could be that the resultant code table provided by Yamaha is quite involved and potentially not that clear for the diy bike mechanic to interpret, although your own experience would suggest otherwise.

Many thanks for bringing these points to our attention.
So, let's see what the new one contains.

I will also say that there is a lot of very useful stuff in this manual that would enable many routine and not-so-routine jobs to be undertaken, with much more practical help than the official manual gives. One example is its description of removing the swing-arm pivot, which has caused some issues recently (Donal removing his). It lists stage by stage undoing all the various caps, nuts, locking plates, then says to "Unscrew the pivot bolt using a large hex bit (see illustration)." There are illustrations that show exactly how to deal with the whole procedure, unlike the official manual which only has an exploded diagram.

The New Haynes manual for the 2001-2010 FJR1300 is now available at Whitehorse Press. Mine is on it's way to me.

Duh... I meant 2001-2013 Mine is a 2010 so I guess subconsciously... oh well

Hope it's a bit more complete than the first one.

As soon as it arrives in the mail I'll check it outand report.

I wasn't aware that this book was out a couple of years already. When I bought the 2010 a couple months ago, I cheked on Whitehorse Press.com and they didn't show it. When I saw it on Haynes' site I mentioned it to Whitehorse and they said they just got em'. (?) Anyway, I find the Haynes books useful.

I received my Haynes manual today from Whitehorse Press. It appears to be the same book that Mcatrophy has, which was published in 2013.

My book shows the same wiring diagram with the mis-labeled cruise control cancel switch.

So this book is not really "New" except to Whitehorse Press who carries lots of manuals but never had this one until I asked them to get it for me. It is hardback for $41.36 plus express mail and handling $7.00.

The fault codes for the EMS are on page 4-16 including over 30 different codes which show up on the clock LCD display when the engine is shut off. Although the code deletion operation is not explained there, it may be the same deletion process explained on page 6-16 next to the list of ABS system fault codes which can be displayed after inserting the above mentioned wiring sub-loom tool.

Pretty good book for doing routine maintenance and tuneups.
