New Leather for Motorcyclists?

I wonder if it would work with leather that's thick enough to be considered safety gear as opposed to a "looks nice" jacket.

 
If you watch the video , they have a piece of 1.2mm (thick) leather they got sent as a sample. This is the thickness commonly used in leather protective gear.

Most makers use leather between 1.2mm -1.4 mm. Because leather is not "formed" , there are always variations in thickness in any hide. This is usualy acknowledged by the maker and they often publish the lowest and highest thickness in an article. This can be found in the decription of most gear , and 1.2mm leather is called "motorcycle weight", ( as long as it does not have any large areas smaller than that figure).

So most times you will see "1.2mm-1.4mm".... even though most of the pant or jacket can be either the higher number... or the lower one , as they never break it down into percentages.
